Obama to change the internet

Fast Eddy

Mayor
Watch for it on the state of the Union. Obama wants local cities to build government run local internet so it can be made faster, but the real reason is control. This should not be allowed. He will try and dictate it, but it requires dollars and should be blocked by congress. Would love to speed up the internet, but not at more government control.

How does increasing internet speed at local levels increase federal government control?

I asked you. You make claims, then bail. Elucidate on YOUR statement.

How does increasing internet speed at local levels increase federal government control?

Why don't you want a faster internet?

With all the streaming coming into use we need a faster internet to not bog down, it is already a problem for some big businesses. We need a faster Internet just to be competitive with the rest of the world.

Watch, they will try and usurp state laws and start making their rules. Can taxing be far behind?

I still fail to understand your position.

We need a faster internet for many purposes...and you seem to be coming out against it because you believe it will come under some federal control. I sense little besides paranoia. Control of what?

Here you go again with 20 questions. I have raised my concern to everyone, we will see what happens. You never seem to get anything so I will leave it at that for you.

Yeah...Your comments raise questions. I ask them, you don't answer them.

You rarely say much, just ask question after question and pounce when you get one you can twist what was said. As I said before, I'm not going down this road with you.

Yes... I ask questions.

I know you're not going down this road with me...because you can't answer my questions. You have no idea how faster internet will result in federal control. You can't even postulate the how...you just know Obama is up to something...and you don't like it.

You have it figured out and I'm clueless so carry on.

You could dispense with that by engaging instead of dodging. You could explain what you're afraid of. You could tell us how you think local fast internet will be controlled by the government.

You don't.

Rebuild With Biden!
An interesting read.. Chatt. TN is one city that has had broadband internet from a publicly owned utility for quite some time, operating at very high speeds. Repubs seem to always be against any type of progess...
----
The FCC wants to let cities build their own broadband. House Republicans disagree.

What is municipal broadband?
In most parts of the country, people get their internet access from a private company such as Comcast or AT&T. But in a few municipalities, broadband service is available from a publicly-owned utility.
Two of the most famous examples are Chattanooga, TN, and Lafayette, LA. Both services offer internet speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second — 10 to 100 times faster than what's available in most parts of the country — at relatively affordable prices. Some tech experts, like Susan Crawford, think municipal broadband systems should be massively expanded:

Eisenhower shouldn't have championed our federal highway system, because it "increased federal control" over we drivers.

A consistent and coherent "interweb" would be almost as valuable to we Americans, as would be a consistent and coherent power grid. BOTH would be springboards for remarkable economic growth.

Good one, FS, nor Pres. Roosevelt signing the bill for rural electrification...

I have today affixed my signature to H. R. 4278, providing statutory authorization for several agricultural programs.
The Congress has thereby materially advanced the program of the Rural Electrification Administration by including in H. R. 4278 permanent authorization for the loan funds required in the program, and provisions liberalizing the terms of rural electrification loans. These provisions will make it possible to bring electricity to many more thousands of farm homes which could not previously be served.
From the point of view of raising the living standards of rural America and providing a more efficient form of farm management, one of the most important projects interrupted by the war is the extension of rural electrification.
In the press of other matters, many of us have overlooked the rapid expansion which has taken place in rural electrification since this Administration instituted the program in 1935. At that time only one out of every ten of our farm families had central station electric service. Today 43 percent of our farms are electrified—in spite of the necessary curtailment in construction resulting from the exigencies of war.

The Fox/GOP freaked out about Obama's support for alternative energy. Their angle was twofold. First, they argued that guvmint simply has no bidness involving itself in that sort of thing. And second, they argued that it was counterintuitive to a functioning free market. They seemed utterly oblivious to the literally trillions of dollars we've invested over the last century, in gasoline, cars, and roads.

Fox/GOP ???

I am all for government investing in alternative energy, but not the way Obama has done it. He just keeps shoveling money to solar and wind without vetting the ideas. Google did a study and came to the conclusion that that we will never solve our energy problem with either of these technologies.
The government funnels billions to hot fusion at the Universities, but nothing for private industry that is now approaching having working units. That and not funding things like Cold fusion (LENR) which China and Russia are making great strides.
The LFTR (Thorium) reactors look to be safe with almost no waste, but not a dime because it would hurt the present nuclear suppliers. China and India are building these reactors and will have a huge power cost advantage in a few years. The US government promised to look into in another 25 years - game over.
they screw up everything they touch - damn lobbyists!
