Alright I hate anyones involvement with the war on daesh, but for those are that are there they are still warriors. This is a fine example of a warrior destroying the enemy at any cost, and also doing the most realistic thing he could do at the time.

Kind of like Broken Arrow. This a movie scene, but this actually happened, minus the Hollywood stuff.

During Vietnam jarheads literally called our rocket barrage on top of their positions, because that was their only hope. And we had pinpoint accuracy thanks to the O2 spotter.

"A good death is it's own reward."
I'll raise a glass to that man.

Calling in a strike on your position is a very desperate move, I can't imagine the feeling.
This is when military has my total respect.

After that battle, the military stopped using us as bait to draw out the enemy. But that was the only way to defeat the Communist guerrillas.

On January 26, 1967 (Operation Tuscaloosa) my Colonel purposely walked us into an ambush to trick the VC into staying put. Recon had told him where they had set up. Ordinarily, and following losing tactics, there would have been prep fire and the enemy would have slinked away with less than five casualties on either side. The Colonel refused to call in artillery and air power, so the VC stood their ground and died to the last man. Three hundred dead on their side and 28 Marine KIA.

It took 7 hours to encircle the enemy position. One squad actually ran out of ammo and had to unlink bullets from machine gun belts to feed their M-14s.

During most of Tuscaloosa the F-4's were laying down napalm, and the 105's were in action as well, and they were set to suppress from My Loc if necessary. Even An Hoa was called on for a fire mission.

But then you know the Vietnam War was not about objectives, it was about body counts.

Were you with Hotel or Foxtrot?
