The Battle Of Champion Hill in Mississippi was fought on May 16,1864. It was part of the Vicksburg Campaign. Some Southerners called/call it the Battle of Baker's Creek. It was a pretty horrendous battle. Some ground changed hands 4 times as Union and Confederate forces attacked and counter-attacked. The Champion family still owns about 600 acres of the battlefield including "The Hill Of Death". They conduct private tours for a fee. I was there on that hallowed ground on 2/11/2017.
