There are 2 known Confederate soldiers that were buried by mistake at Vicksburg National Cemetery. I was only able to find one of them.

I visited Port Hudson National Cemetery again in March 2017. It was earlier in the day, the weather was better and I got some really nice shots. Actually,I went there twice during that 4 day weekend in March.

Memphis National Cemetery,June 3,2017. It is a fairly large national cemetery, relative to some I have been to. For whatever reason,I expected it to be smaller. My recollection is that the interpretive sign there was the generic one at many national cemeteries and didn't have anything specific about Memphis on it so I did not snap a pic of it. Either that or I was just too anxious to walk the grounds and forgot to snap a pic. There was only a slight breeze blowing and the US Flag was at the entrance of the cemetery, not out in the middle as usual,so there were no good photo ops of the flag. Many of the Unknown Soldiers buried there are casualties of the explosion and sinking of the Sultana just upriver from Memphis on April 27,1865,which I posted about here:

Corinth National Cemetery,Corinth,Mississippi - 6/3/2017. It was late in the afternoon, drizzling on and off and the air was full of moisture. Hard to keep the lens dry and take good pics. My pic of the interpretive sign came back a little too blurry to post and read good. I definitely would like to go back there again.

Shiloh National Cemetery,Shiloh,Tennessee - 6/4/2017. It's right on the Tennessee River at Pittsburg Landing. It rained on and off while we were there. Pretty appropriate since the same thing happened before, during and after the battle. Confederate KIAs were buried in burial trenches at Shiloh.

Wow BD....it's pretty sobering seeing all these gravesites!!! Until you actually see them, you don't realize how many there are, and how many graves they hold :(.

Yes ma'am. They are sobering and quite a sight to see. I have one more to post pics of. There are a couple that I hope to be visiting in the next few months. Might get a chance to go back to Corinth National Cemetery in the same time period. Got a visit to another one planned for June next year.

Confederate Monument at Little Rock National Cemetery

As you enter the gate and walk through the rows of veterans' graves on the right side of the cemetery, one of the first things you encounter is the Confederate Monument and burial section. I knew nothing about this cemetery before arriving there. The monument is white marble and the sun was real bright. You can zoom on it and read most of it. The story is more readable on the cemetery sign I posted. The monument sits atop a burial mound and I did not wanna walk up there to get a closer shot of the inscription. The long and short of it is that several hundred Confederate soldiers are buried at Little Rock National Cemetery. You can see the different gravestones in the pics.

The Rostrum at Little Rock Cemetery is just past and to the right of the Confederate Monument and was donated by the UDC.

That's about it for now. I have visited 11 National Cemeteries so far and posted pics of all of them in this thread. Looking at my travel schedule,it's unlikely that I'll visit another one this year. There are 3 at places I plan to travel to next year. I was gonna do a thread on Confederate cemeteries I have visited but not sure I wanna draw attention to them in this forum.

I printed that page from the VA website before I went and I'm glad I did. The Grave Locator at the cemetery allows you to print a cemetery map and I got one of those while there. There were a few gravesites in particular that I wanted to find. This was the first one. The only Medal Of Honor winner buried at Natchez National Cemetery.

"Wilson Brown was born into slavery in 1841 at Natchez, MS. During the Civil War, Brown escaped to the Navy gunboat USS Hartford and enlisted in 1863. Landsman Brown served until 1865, including aboard the Hartford, and returned to Natchez at war’s end. During the Battle of Mobile Bay (AL) on August 5, 1864, Brown was knocked unconscious in the ship’s hold by a shell burst. He regained consciousness and returned to supplying cannon ammunition. Brown was awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery. He died in January 1900 and is buried in Natchez National Cemetery (Section G, Grave 3152)."

Update on Baton Rouge National Cemetery. I visited there on a foggy January 14,2017 morning. Had 2 other places to hit that day and my feet hurt from a 6 mile hike wearing inadequate footwear at the Port Hudson battlefield, near Baton Rouge, the day before. I missed something on that trip that I found at the cemetery this past Saturday. I was in Baton Rouge attending the 2nd Annual Baton Rouge Civil War Round Table Symposium. The symposium ended around 5pm and there was still 2.5 hours before sunset so I hit 3 sites in Baton Rouge before dark. Found a Confederate veteran buried there. He was captured and paroled Vicksburg in July 1863 and died on a steamboat about 10 days later. His body was left at Baton Rouge for interment. Went back and looked at my January 2017 pics and his gravestone was not in any of them, including long range shots.
