But they are not Jen, we know they are not. They have skins like a Rinosurus ;)

We are all thick skinned now --- none of us are snowflakes -even the snowflakes are not.

I get the reasons why, the cat fights of old where only fun on occasion - not as a constant. I just think that if we put our heads together we would find a way for Mods to do their thing with less effort and we could all, including A&B, talk without having to watch our every word.
I think so too. Most, if not all, of us are pretty thick skinned. I hate censorship.

I have proposed my idea on how it could work. Sure there's a downside. Everything has a downside.
But moderating with nitpicking rules - based on what is turned in is just not a good method. And to me, name-calling is one of those nitpicking rules that can go by the wayside.

New Rule: There will be no suspensions due to name calling starting now. Don't turn in posts for that.
Moderators will edit out the most egregious of words (the N word) (if they are turned in) but still no suspensions. If someone uses that word several times in every post (aka a lot thus making too much work for the mods) ......... moderator discretion dictates that a penalty beyond editing may take place. And moderator discretion would dictate what that penalty would be.

That's how it would go.
Easier for the moderators.
Fine for all but the butthurt at everything posters.

We are allowed the 'n' word though --- don't you remember? At one point, in utter frustration Dave allowed that as the only [unwanted language]. In the early days -------- it was funny though. Every single post was censored to some extent - bar the 'n' word - couldn't say Dick or half of the rest of the English language Looooooooooool Hilarious. It was like reading code.

I suppose life for a PJ Mod will never be an easy one --- If I were a Mod, I'd tell half of the reporters not to be so silly - chill - play them music - tell them stories - but, it has to be an even hand - and there is one of the rubs.

And reliance on things to be turned in - does not make for an even hand. And that's why I'm saying "lose the rule".

I say they let it be the Wild West with an ignore button for those who are easily offended.

I don’t think they should eliminate any word.....
It is a word....

Grotesque obscene over the top should be tossed but other then that let it fly.

Ignore the crazies

Perhaps.
But that solid poster who gets banned because he called someone a bonehead on a whim is lost to us.

And now .........or soon.........we may be bereft of solid posters if the "whim" catches them too often.:(

And I know................ all the name-calling will also drive away solid posters.

Definitely a lose/ lose situation.
why cant they simply call people names less? then there wouldnt be banning...

which is temporary anyway.

A and B play the report game ---- more stringent rules are put in place because of and only because of this game. Along comes a non Aer or Ber who has never been involved in 'the game' --- they post as they always have done and suddenly are shut out of the site --- mid sentence, as it were --- for calling another poster 'a fool' in judgment of a view they put forth. Other poster is an Aer or a Ber and reports - Non player doesn't report the insult Aer or Ber hurled their way.

Outside the argument of curbing free expression - thus stultifying discussion which otherwise flowed - outside that, is PJ only now gonna be home to A and B because non game players are at a disadvantage in play?
rules have been the same for a long time. the owner, having tired of the a and b stuff..tightened uo the punting. i guess the occasional errant booting occurs.

Lol I have been here, I know how it is ---- rules must be the same for every one - no matter the balance of A, B and non players, it can't be otherwise but it is gonna be tough on those who don't report.

Still from now on when I need a few days away from here --- to get down to some seious studies --- I'll just pick my victim - insult - and then turn myself in.

I understand what you are saying, @PhilFish . And @SW48 , if you care for my opinion for the umpteenth time.
But don't say there are never any takers when you ask people to come moderate. I know of several who have volunteered.

Moderation will never make everyone happy, but it is a good idea to try for consistency.

For example, sometimes calling someone "bonehead" gets a person banned for a couple of days, other times it doesn't. Why? Because if it doesn't get turned in, it won't be moderated. "Moderators can't be here 24/7 to police the board" , you say. And of course that's true.

So what is the logical answer?

To me the answer is this: "Suck it up, Buttercup". If you get called a name, deal with it. Name-calling won't be moderated. Period. Don't send it in...... Mods don't care.

There can be a few (really, less than 5) words so terrible that if they are posted they are Xed out. But even they shouldn't bring on a suspension unless the poster causes undue work by the mods by overusing those words and THAT would be moderator discretion as to how much is too much.

Simple?
Yep.
Outright threats and illegal postings should be moderated as always...........always bad.

Suspensions/ temp bannings.......... mostly a thing of the past.
That's what I think.
That's pretty much my take on it, Jen. I'm a big girl, I can take it, and I can dish it out. Either way, I don't need a mommy or daddy to stick up for me and soothe my fragile ego.

That's why I hardly ever report a post or poster. Once in a while I do it just for the hell of it, but not ever because my 'feelings' were hurt. LOL Strangers on an anonymous internet board simply don't have the power to hurt my feelings. I don't even understand that concept...:confused::D

I don't post a whole lot so it seems to me the moderation is relatively benign. there are other sites where it is extremely heavy handed. Hell, I've been banned for asking a simple question without cursing or threats of any kind because I wouldn't join a Trump circle jerk.

Compared to some boards, this place is paradise.

Well, that's it........... when we put our self-esteem out here on the board...... that's a problem. I don't do it. Some do. Some people get all butthurt when someone uses a "disagree" rating about their post.

I have a problem with censorship.

There are some things that should be moderated: threats, stalking, illegal statements. But the mods don't need to moderate name-calling.

True.

I know of one board that finds ways to ban conservatives for just being conservative. ;)

Agreed - no-one is complaining about the Mods on here.

Distraction is a terrible curse to any studies - I don't always have the will power to 'log off'.

Sooo I could, when an essay must really be written, just line up my victim --- be it a sycophant or blockhead -----and name call to my black heart's content. Then give myself in and get on with my work without the distraction of PJ.

;)
