I'm not arguing that there's an absence of disdain and derision for the Party of Trump. About 60% of Americans feel that way. But it's possible to deride and disdain evil in a dignified way. The complete collapse of dignity is not, to this point, something that has spread beyond the GOP.
I don't think you believe that. I think if you were honest with yourself, you'd have to admit there are a huge number of absurd lies and cartoonishly narcissistic statements that have come out of Trump's mouth that would in no event ever be said by someone like Clinton. That's not to say that Clinton doesn't harbor narcissistic thoughts deep down. I think ANYONE who aspires to lead a nation has more than a healthy helping of narcissism. But hers isn't so out-of-control that she can't keep it in check when speaking. With Trump, the bragging and self love bubble up any time he isn't reading from a controlled script. And I'm not arguing Clinton never lied. Just about every human being lies, and successful politicians do so more than most. But if you check the independent fact-checkers, you'll see that Clinton lied less than most, and far less than Trump. Most of Clinton's lying is of the ordinary political variety -- spinning facts hard enough that the spin occasionally gets bad enough that it constitutes a lie, or lying about biographical puffery that doesn't matter, or at least lying about something she has good reason to think nobody will realize is a lie. Part of what makes Trump so undignified is the squalor of his lies. He tells lies that he should have realized would immediately be fact-checked and definitively shot down, often about things that matter greatly. Clinton is an ordinary political liar. Trump is an extraordinary one.
