Hello Sunset Rose. Welcome. Things can get a bit brutal here sometimes but we're mostly an amiable crowd.

The information in the top post here made by Minotaur is an old one that was posted when Min and I were moderators (last year). I'm not sure that the present group of moderators offer mentoring in a specific sense. The format has changed and we no longer have PM's in that form but we have "conversation" ability which is pretty much the same thing as a PM. And, if you have any questions, feel free to ask in the appropriate forum and someone will be glad to answer.

Jump right in and start talking and don't be put off if someone gets in your face. It happens and it's okay.

We shall never have friends, if we expect to find them without faults. I'm new here and am not sure of what I'm doing. Am I a lone voice crying int the wilderness?

Welcome @Jack Rabbit . And I prefer people with flaws since I am made up of stitched-together flaws.
However.
When you are posting here the unspoken rules of the road are to (1)never admit you have flaws; (2) pick a side, stay on it no matter what; (3) apologize to those on your own side but never apologize to anyone on the other side.

Keep in mind that the previous paragraph was written slightly tongue-in-cheek but I may be chastised for it (or not depending on who sees it).

Oh. And this is the most important thing: IF you are a sock puppet, tell people on your "side" but be wary of telling anyone on the opposing side. It's more fun that way. There is a "private message" tool here that's called "conversation".

And yes. You are a lone voice crying in the wilderness. Never forget that.

Why would you even do that to a new poster in the Introductions forum?

In the next sentence I said it was "tongue in cheek".
But when I was new to posting over on BB....... someone (Mitch. I can't remember his moniker but it was cool) (Oh yeah.......Metronil.) told me those 3 things and it helped me stay alive until I figured things out.
I don't think any poster who comes here is "new" to posting on forums, so that person will probably get that I was laughing as I wrote that. And if not, then it will be something for the person to keep in the back of their mind as they learn the forum.

Ya gotta chill, @bdtex and @PhilFish . You should know me by now. I said it like I thought it. That's what I do. I am never intentionally "mean" but I can be just a little edgy. But I think you know where my heart is by now. I liked that post. It makes me smile. If you know me you'll smile too.

That was great advice for a newbie OR an oldbie. It was absolute unvarnished truth.

That is a funny sort of a thing to say, for a new poster - why do you think you might be a lone voice crying int the wilderness?

It was an odd sortta thing for a new poster to say -- wasn't it?

'Am I a lone voice crying into the wilderness?' --- I don't understand why a new person would say that - do you?

I hoped Jack would tell us exactly what he was crying into the wilderness about. So far.........nothing.

Meh, it's a not uncommon Biblical metaphor for speaking even while under the impression no one is listening. A pretty apt description of much of the non-responsive back and forth of what passes for 'discussion' on this site, imo.

For a second post? It just seemed a bit odd, I wasn't criticising it was being talked about - perhaps they will elaborate - in post 3?

Why not in a 2nd post? Again, it's a not uncommon saying; perhaps it's less common in the UK than here. And I doubt we'll hear from this poster again after he / she got the obnoxious post from @Jen that I'm sure resulted in the [accurate] conclusion that this is a board unfriendly to newcomers.

Ummmm I think that you are making a mountain out of a mole hill - and why wouldn't the new poster come back? Jack got this far ............. of course he'll be back.

What molehill am I making a mountain of? I wasn't the one obsessing over the poster's statement about being a voice in the wilderness, that was you and Jen, as though that random and frequently used Biblical reference was some big mystery of import. Jen being rude to new posters is hardly new, so no mountain there and I was not the first to observe it. In fact I wouldn't have mentioned it at all if Jen hadn't butted into my reply to you.
