a) The approximation often published is ~3K
And as a result of that horrible tragedy UBL ended up #One on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list.
b) The most bitter irony of this is, during the 8 years of the Bush administration. #1 on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted killed ~3K innocent U.S. citizens.
During those same 8 years, U.S. President Bush killed more innocent U.S. citizens than the #1 guy on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list.
c) There were many more killed than those in the Twin Towers. We lost an airliner full in a farmer's field, and still more in the Pentagon.
It was a terrible tragedy.
The difference is, the U.S. military invasion & occupation of Iraq cost substantially more lives, and was 100% within our control. The attacks of 09/11/01, also a terrible tragedy was not (I hope) commanded by the president of the United States.
