Will rising gas prices effect your budget?

Gasoline is on the rise and some have predicted five dollar a gallon fuel by summer. A fill up can easily exceed a "C" note. If gasoline continues to increase in price it will surely effect the overall economy, but more importantly how will these high costs effect you?

All cash changes affect our budgets. But for a "fillup to exceed a C note" means you made some poor choices on the kind of vehicle you are driving recently. And why should we reward that sort of poor decision making is rather beyond me.

Gasoline - even at $5.00/gal, in inflation adjusted terms, is not all that expensive

Mr. Patriot,

No, not really. I commute in my company truck, and I just cashed out my credit card rewards for three $100 gas cards.

No doubt since gas prices touch every element of our lives. However, I choose the kind of car that fits my needs, not one that fits what any president thinks I might need.

For your information I drive a company van, my gasoline is paid for by my company as I have a company gas card, I did not choose this vehicle as a personal choice my company did. But I do disagree that five dollar a gallon gasoline is not all that expensive as this high cost will effect millions not to mention large and small businesses across our nation. To fill up my van costs my company about one hundred and five dollars if empty at the time of fill up. I am certain my company will pass along these higher operating costs to our customers, thus prices rise, effecting our economy. Obummer will also be effected negatively in the up coming election if gasoline hits the five dollar mark, unless we all rush out and buy an Obummer taxpayer subsidized tax credit Chevy Volt and go up in smoke when it catches on fire on the way home from the dealership. NOT.

I totally agree Jen. If Obummer had his way we would all be driving his Chevy Volt that has had many technical flaws that could be life threatening or fatal.

whats sad is the only reason for high gas prices is speculation and crooked oil companies shutting down their refineries. Sweet the conservative market place that we the consumer has to live with because that is what free enterprise is all about, making as much money for your company that you can.

Why do you hate poor people? Most middle-class or lower middle-class people can't afford to trade in their old cars every two years, so your reference to the kind of vehicle they are driving recently points towards a certain disdain for them. Almost snobbishness....it's like saying they're idiots for not buying a "recent" car that gets better mileage.

Another thing....do you honestly believe that small businesses who depend on having their merchandise transported by truck, and who are getting socked with higher prices from the trucking company, are going to EAT that price increase and are NOT going to pass it on to the consumer?

Your points are well taken. That was the reason for my original post. The economy of this country is highly dependent and affected directly by gasoline prices. Five dollar a gallon gasoline, I believe, will have grave and dramatic effects not only on this economy but also on nearly everyone's standard of living as well as their quality of life, unless you are very wealthy or just don't care.

No, Obama goes around to every gas station and raises the price on the pumps, sillly Democrats, republicans have all the answers, gas would be 10 cents a gallon if McCain was President.:trustme:

Yep, President Obama showed up at my door yesterday, took my truck away and left me a lousy bicycle.

Don't you just hate when that happens? ;)

trick question?

unlike our benevolent federal government, we the people live on a budget. obviously when expenses increase there is an offset somewhere... like checking tire pressure more often

And odds are you chose one based on subsidized gas prices. And if you chose badly becuase you didn't figure out that we are past Peak Oil and that gas will continue to go up in price faster than inflation no matter how much we drill - well you kinda deserve what you get.

Ah bullshite. The Volt has fewer technical flaws than a Ford Ranger Pickup. Less likely to rollover, less likely to catch fire in an accident, less likely to slide on slick surfaces etc etc

And yeah it would be better both for the economy and our national security if a much larger segment of the public drove a Volt instead of a Hyundai Tuscon or a Suzuki Sidekick or even a Jeep.

So if you were dumb enough to buy a car relying on US Oil Subsidies to subsidize your redneck lifestyle... that's kinda your own damn fault

Of course it will affect everyone, which is why speculators who never take delivery of oil & oil products sshould be barred from speculating in that industry.

When we get rid of the greedy speculators, oil will drop down again & be affordable.

So the managers opted for a short term cost savings in the CapEx of the Vehicle and counted on subsidized OpEx... Bad choice... bummer for them

How is that not the Free Market at work?

As for Gasoline hitting the $5.00 mark - What makes you think it will - other than your Obama Derangement Syndrome? Remember Troby Lungberg says it wont.

yes? So then they should make better decisions about the vehicle choices they make to drive. Right? After all, why should we be subsidizing bad economic choices made purely on reactive desires?
