What's Wrong With A 10% Flat Tax?

Neo In The Matrix

The Matrix Is All Around You
I say everyone should pay a 10% flat tax. No exceptions, no excuses, everyone pays 10% across the board. This is the most fair way. No one should get a free ride, no matter how rich or poor, and everyone should have skin in the game. I guarantee you that people wouldn't be so flippant with how to spend scarce federal tax dollars if they had to contribute. Am I right or am I right?

Not enough revenue to cover expenditures.

"What's pernicious about deficits for conservatives is this. It makes big government cheap. What we're doing, we're turning to the country, the "conservative" administration turns to the country and says: We're going to give you a dollar's worth of government, we're going to charge you seventy five cents for it. And we're going to let your kids pay the other quarter." George Will Nov 30, 2003

I’d support a flat income tax so long as all other forms of taxation were eliminated and the entire government was funded solely by income taxes.

But as long as the laundry list of other regressive taxes remain, income taxes need to remain progressive to balance it out.

And refunds eliminated.

So if the government takes more of your money than they are supposed to by law, you should have no right to get any of it back?

I was answering to a post that said "and all other forms of taxation eliminated". So in that scenario there wouldn't be

"That gives people an incentive not to be poor (i.e.: lazy and unproductive)." NM #15
It may slightly increase the avarice tendency intrinsic to most humanity.

The problem is, the downside imparts more harm than the upside imparts good.

Deficit spending is slavery, literally involuntary servitude.

It is an offense so egregious our Founders waged and won a bloody Revolution over the issue:

NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION !!

And there isn't a U.S. citizen as yet unconceived today that has ever voted for any MOC, not the "tax and spends", and not the "borrow and spends".
