If you are looking to engage someone just to argue with them perhaps its not their maturity level you should be worrying about.

I ask myself this question every day when I come here and contemplate posting to people. Sadly, many Lefty posters here don't qualify using this criteria.

An excellent point but two thoughts come to mind:
1) It’s not one-on-one. I often post not to convince the brain-damaged POS I’m replying to but in order to voice a disagreement for others who read the conversation. If a person posts “Naziism is great!”, should we let it go simply because we know such a person is mentally immature and morally lacking? Or should we post to oppose such a stupid statement simply to let others know such deplorable people will be opposed?

2) The Internet is great; it’s given a voice to anyone who cares to show it. No longer do people need a record company to share their music or a publisher to share their writings. The Internet allows everyone to share their talents with the world. OTOH, there are no qualifications required. No matter how crappy their music or their writing, it’s on the Internet. Same goes for mentally ill individuals. People who are mentally ill due to infirmity or age can post as much as they like. and there are a lot of them on political/religious forums. It takes time to differentiate between someone who is simply voicing a different point of view and a person who obviously needs (or is actually receiving) mental health care.

I come here looking for conversation. Just conversation. I don't prejudge anyone's maturity level, but if someone starts talking about mine right off the bat, it tells me that's not a person who is here for nice "conversation".
