SAT test results will now come with "adversity score" to help non-whites

Why can't we just say what everybody knows.? Blacks are massively inferior mentally to whites and asians.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/adversity-score-sat-exam-college-board-calculate-students-admissions-college-wall-street-journal/

may 16 2019 A new "adversity score" assigned by the College Board on the SAT exam will reportedly reflect students' family income, environment and educational differences in an effort to level the playing field in the highly competitive college admissions process. The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday that 50 schools used the new indicator as part of a beta test last year and the College Board plans to bring more than 150 schools into the fold this fall.

The College Board is a New York-based non-profit that is in charge of overseeing the SAT. A dialogue about wealth and privilege in educational institutions exploded this year in wake of the college admissions scandal, in which 33 parents were charged with paying huge sums of money to have their children cheat on the SAT and be admitted into top colleges under the false pretenses of being student athletes.

This new "adversity score" number is calculated by assessing 15 factors that can better help admissions officers determine an individual student's social and economic background, the Journal reported. These factors are first divided into three categories: neighborhood environment, family environment and high school environment.

The SAT should not even ask the race of its test-takers since that encourages whites and asians to call themselves black in order to get the benefit of the affirmative action scoring used for blacks. The reported black/white gap is huge but the actual gap is much much larger.

1. The rescoring is supposed to help disadvantaged whites as well.
2. The SAT is marketed as a test that is supposed to, when considered in conjunction with high school grades, predict performance the first semester of college better than high school grades alone. That is all the sellers of the test claim it can do.

But the average Black college freshman gets higher grades than the average white freshman with the same high school grades and a score 80 points higher on the SAT. So it seems some adjustment would make the test better at doing what it purports to do.

HAHAHA. Making stuff up again, i see. Blacks do far far worse than whites on the SAT, even with the huge benefit of affirmative action scoring.

Moreover, Blacks with the same academic aptitude score worse than whites on the SAT due to the testing anxiety effect and due to racially distributed opportunities to be exposed to the markers of wealth which the SAT measures familiarity with.

Great. So why the "adversity score" requirement?

To keep differential assessments from contributing to inequality of opportunity?
I remember an old science fiction short story about a society that tried to make everyone equal. There was a ballet show on television and the most talented ballerinas were weighted down with chains and blocks in accordance with their talent so they wouldn't show up the less talented.

Our society should be based on merit, not racism....even racism with good intentions. If the problem is inequality of access to schools, then work on making better schools available to the poor, not punishing those who are smart and educated enough to qualify for college.

“Harrison Bergeron” by (I think) Kurt Vonnegut.

Affirmative action is more like taking the chains and blocks off oppressed people instead of pretending they aren’t there and the competition is a fair one.

Excellent call on Vonnegut. Thanks.

Disagreed on your analogy. You are, indeed, putting chains and blocks on others with an "adversity score" or any other measure to make all equal as in Vonnegut's story.

You’re welcome. As you know, this has not been the first time we have disagreed and I’m sure it won’t be the last. It is good to have you back though ... I do not share your conservative philosophy but I recognize you as a thoughtful person who understands the responsibility to be informed and reasonable which automatically makes you an outstanding contributor to this forum.

I do agree that we have a problem with access to education the US so we're agreed on the problem but disagreed on the solution.

Trump is bassackwards too on his MAGA idea of bringing back jobs to the US. Really? Bring back Norma Rae and textile sweatshops? Stupid. No, the problem is similar to this thread: educating those who need it. "Free college" isn't the answer either since all that does is put the costs on the backs of the taxpayers like low interest college loans.

Reduce college costs and make them more accessible. Khan Academy is a good start. Put more money back in libraries so anyone with the inclination can go use a computer for free and work towards an education.

Sure were many families black & white that did well for themselves in textile mills raising their families and providing homes and I can't find or remember any school shootings back then and we kids even went to school with guns hanging in rear windows of our trucks...……...

Trade school is the answer for kids real future, someone will always be needed and paid well to install/build what the now tech-nics will need.

Times change and no one can turn back the clock.

It's unrealistic to think everyone can earn $50,000/year making t-shirts or being the front right wheel lug guy on an assembly line. We need to up our education system and train people for the 21st century, not try to roll back the clock 60 years while the Third World not only passes us by but starts calling the US a "shithole" country.

Wasn't trying to turn back the clock, just posting facts...….todays kids will either demand tech jobs or set on moms couch playing games...….."UP OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM"...…..it's already there if the student is up to the demand. My 36 year old daughter has a Masters in Chemistry and was a Professor at a NY University and now getting her PHD in Engineering instead of setting on the couch playing video games...………..'3rd world" country kids...…..are doing the same. Majority of American kids, companies can't find qualified applicants for jobs available and I'm speaking of 100's of 1000's jobs...…...hell, look at stats of number of millennial kids living off Mommy & Daddy today!

Smart Phones haven't made American kids smarter, they've made them dumber...…...I'm 68 years young and started working when I was a teen, anything to make a dime, priming tobacco, picking blackberries to sell, mowing yards, picking up hay, castrating baby pigs, curb hopping, anything and today I can't find ONE teen that will weed-eat my yard, majority of American kids are spoiled ass brats and just damn Lazy.

That's been going on for a long time.
I knew a person of color in the 1970's who was in a special program to get his degree and he said that no matter what he did, they weren't allowed to fail him.

I disagree that blacks are inferior.

That's what the racist Democrats have thought forever though, and it is why the Democrat think they can buy votes by giving a guaranteed in and a guaranteed pass to black people. It's been working well for Democrats.

Globalists want to make us like everyone else. They hate that America has excelled and want to pull us off our "high horse". It is our fault there are even "shothole" countries. Americans stole all the money (according to Global Socialists).

Definitely sounds like a step in the right direction. In Cuba they have the “University for All” program where people can watch lectures on public television and can test for degrees through the National Education System.

I agree with @Max R. that times change. I don’t know how it felt but there were certainly deadly school shootings for many decades.

I do think you have a point about vocational education being a good source of opportunity and unreasonably neglected.
