the genesis of civilization

Maybe God keeps allowing nature to crush civilizations in the hopes that one civilization will rise where the people don't hate each other enough to destroy the planet over that hatred. If that's true, then this one isn't it. We might not have reached as high as some previous civilizations, but we are just about as hateful as we can possibly be. Time to start again from scratch.
God is a Spirit.

Humans were built in God's likeness, but God was not built in human likeness. That means we have a spirit too. It does not mean God has flesh also.

People are forever ascribing human likeness to God (and the gods). Jesus never did that.

Here's what I am getting (trying to get) at: God is credited for creating the physical universe... and whenever some natural clamity happens, we say God did it or God allowed it, but when they asked Jesus what was the sin of the people upon whom some tower fell... Jesus plainly answered, the tower did not fall on them for their sins.

God is a Spirit. All his blessings are in the spiritual realm. We try to bring God into the natural realm, we think of him as a "him" as a man, as a natural being... he's not, we are, and he created us, but he did not create himself and he is not a natural man.

When you read Genesis, try to remember, it is a myth, it is not at all an eyewitness, it is not prophecy, and it isn't really history either, no one in Moses camp had any better an idea what happened in Noah's day than we do, Moses' scribes wrote down the myth - borrowing from existing myths - and then added the history of their nation.

To wit: no one was there in the clouds witnessing God saying, "okay, no more floods, I promise, and here's my rainbow to seal the promise". That was probably a poetic way for the scribes to teach the people that the floods are not happening again. The scribes may have long lost the knowledge explaining why the floods will not repeat, but they had the myth, and there is no one living today, that knows for sure, if that rainbow bit was part of the myths they knew or if they added it; and what difference does it make? Rainbows still hold that promise, every time I see a rainbow, I think, God cares about me... something I need to be reminded of.

I already understood all of that.

My point was that God created angels that were obedient and loved him unquestioningly, until one decided not to be and took some friends with him, but that's another story.

God created man with the ability to choose so that if a man loves God, it's not just his created obedient nature, but because he truly loves God. Turns out that ....... a whole lot of men choose to love Satan instead and Satan is the father of chaos, destruction, and ruin.

As far as I can tell, if civilization has repeated itself over and over again for millions of years.............the outcome has always been the same. Destruction and ruin.

I have to ask "why?" but there is no one that knows the answer to that.

From what I can gather, this is the time, and this is the civilization, when men became evil, when a perfect angel fell from grace, when destruction and ruin ran rampant over the earth.

As far as I can ascertain and guess, from times before the flood, it wasn't so. There was a time - a very, very long time - when Lucifer was perfect and beautiful, and full of wisdom. That may have gone on for millions of years and men basked in his glory. He was God's ambassador, he built up wisdom and knowledge in the earth. And it could very well have been (and I truly believe this) that men were actually "very good" creatures, there was no war, or hatred, or evil, or destruction and ruin.

But some time before the flood - how much time, I don't know - Lucifer fell from grace, spoiled his wisdom with pride, and turned into an enemy. "Satan" means an opposer... the enemy. But remember, just like Jesus had an apostle turn on him, before the angel turned into an enemy, he was not an enemy, he was walking perfection, he taught mankind, helped mankind, ministered to mankind. And no matter when the time was when Lucifer turned on God and man, even if it was 100,000 years ago, that is still a bat of an eye for God, it seems like an eternity to us, but the plain truth is, we are not going to be in this struggle forever... it will end. Maybe not in your and my lifetime, but we are old Jen, we could go any time, I really think the end is near, I wish I could make one of those signs and start walking around with one again.

Do we know why those other marvelous civilizations ended? There seems to be a down time between where (almost) everything is not just lost, but totally gone.

I do understand that now, with everything being saved in the cloud........ if it all goes down, there won't be much of a paper trail, if any. Maybe that's how it was.

I, too, think the end is near. However......near in God's eyes is nothing like it is in our eyes. Sometimes I think I would like to be here to see how it plays out from a human standpoint. Most times, I think that would be too painful (on many different levels). And also.............seeing it played out in my imagination includes television coverage of everything every day, every minute. Television coverage, communication, would be the first thing to go, so being here to witness would be a big nothing unless there really are trumpets and angels and God in the sky for all to see.

Well, trumpets were in heaven, trumpets were in the vision, so what was that? It was announcing the presence of the Lord... in the vision.

Right now, there is war in heaven. It isn't on television, though, is it? We have tribulation in the world, now that gets covered by the news media, whatever is happening in the world; but not the events in heaven.

We are in the thick of this vision already, but it is happening in the spirit realm, so don't expect it to be on television. The only thing I expect to get noticed by the world is when it is over and the Lord returns with the saints and takes over human government for 1000 years; then the world will take notice.

Well, if it comes I want to have this mans face in my bunker....watch this and wait for the last few comments, you will get a kick out of it.

that was brutal (and funny).

The apocalypse is not about death and destruction... that was dark age lack of understanding. The apocalypse was/is totally about what God was/is doing in the church for the past 1900 years. It doesn't spill over into the world until it is over. The end that is near ... is the end of the church construction, the 2nd coming of Christ happens in the Spirit first, and the "day of the Lord" refers to the entire 2000 years of Christ building the church (in heaven).

The only thing happening in the world is "great tribulation" which is already happening. Ask me, GWBush was the opening of the 4th seal, we've had nothing but wars and rumors of wars since the New World Order took over our government.

The biggest Lie, that we were all taught, is that the "stone Age" was a backward primal time of cave dwellers. When actually, there is all the world of difference between dwelling in a cave versus cutting out square openings and laser cut mining into hard rock. It doesn't take any technology to live in a cave. But if you think the desert nomads did the rock work at Petra... how??? with chisels? A sparse population of nomads cut out seven miles of rock with chisels? There is machine work all over the place. Cave dwellers often times were not dwelling in caves, per se, they were dwelling in ancient laser cut mines. In fact, the stone Age was so advanced, they were able to build dwellings and temples just by cutting into the bedrock. But there was a lot more than that going on. There was sound technology at work, there was healing for human DNA... the stone Age was far advanced to where we are today. Yet, we were all taught, it was backward primal man, we were taught they were half ape, and this was pure fantasy.

Apocalypse and Revelation are synonyms. What will happen at the apocalypse is that truth will finally be revealed to us. Exactly how that will be revealed has been spelled out, yet.......... it still remains a mystery..........otherwise, there would be no "revelation".

"Apocalypse" is a Greek word, it means "unveiling". God lifts the veil from our eyes so we can understand the scriptures. Hence, the scriptures are revealed to us.

I think the scroll was titled, "the unveiling (or revealing) of Jesus Christ." God gave John this giant vision that encapsulated all the visions of the Day of the Lord, given to all the prophets in the old testament. There are references to prophets in the old testament that we don't have in our bible. For instance, the book of Iddo. The visions of a couple thousand years of prophets is hard to keep track of.

In a nutshell, the apocalypse reveals the construction of the church; the full dispensation of Christ's heavenly ministry.

When I was a child we went to a church where the service was in Spanish. When the pastor told us to turn to a chapter and verse in "Apocolipsis" .......I knew it was in the back of my English Bible and it was called "Revelation". That's when I realized the connection of the two words.

I believe that there will be an amazing apocalypse for each of us when we die and the veil is lifted. I try to imagine, but I'm not sure that's even remotely possible.

I have a saying:

When you die, you don't go to heaven or hell... you stay right where you are.

... meaning we have a spiritual condition. We are either already seated in heavenly places with Christ or we are the dead burying the dead.

Yeah, it seems all the world ever sees in the apocalypse is death and destruction... that is not what the book is about. And really, when you think about it, what is a vision? A vision is a dream. So, who is to say what a dream is saying? Nobody knows what might happen next... there's all this dreaming going on; I get a lot of dreams, beats me what those dreams are saying, and I'm not sure it would happen even if I did understand.

But speaking of floating boats. I watched this video yesterday on a presentation given by some English dude who I guess is an authority on the ancient Sumerian language, and he had the writing translated about Noah's ark.... you know, the tale. So, the Sumerian text tells how to build this "ark" and it is a circular boat built out of rope... this kind of boat was/is built over in Iraq. So, the guy does a documentary and they build this rope boat (about 1/10th scale) and they float the thing, and it all seemed utterly pointless to me ... because who is not aware how each culture told that tale according to their local flavor? So, there's a Sumerian text that is 1000 years older than the Biblical text, and in the Sumerian text it is a rope boat. So, what? One text was written 8000 years after the fact and the other was written 9000 years after the fact, both are records of a myth far too old to matter if one text is older than the other.

So, the rope boat would float better, but it would be impossible to build and not strong enough to handle its own weight. But what was interesting was the text format, and how it pointed at where the event took place. And again, it seems Noah lived on the south shore of the Black Sea, when a whole lot of water and rain came at his ark. I'm guessing there was more than one ark, and those people knew what was coming and prepared for it. And I think that was the story all over the earth. I think the populations of the earth escaped the floods, but the technology and advanced learning was lost. And, of course, poor people were screwed, poor people always get screwed.

Just think of it as the thinning of the herd.
Big wars do that too.

The Black Sea did endure a massive flood when the Middle Sea burst through the gap and flooded the basin. There are wonderful recreations of this online. It was a torrent like no other and happened sometime in the last 20k years if I recall. Something like this happened in the northwest with Lake Missoula and the ice sheets.

I'm thinking all these events fit together. I'm looking at the texts and the various sciences... I'm not hung up on some ridiculous "young earth" concept, that was never much more than poor scholarship. The planet is still coming out of the dark ages, but we are starting to piece the puzzle pieces together. Genesis is one piece of that puzzle.

You know what strikes me, when I read Genesis? The way God just lays out what to do, as if it was no sweat... and Noah knocks it out, with no complaints. In reality, this could have been a plan of action for the entire region of the world where Noah lived, and the story might very well have originally intended that only the people who built arks survived the flood that walloped that area. The story is told in past tense.
