Despair

I had been avoiding the News and all discussions on Brexit - it is just too unbearably upsetting now three years later and we are still in the fuc'king EU!- But my Remoaner sister phoned me to day and went into a rant about us all starving to death and having no meds and Boris being a dictator ect and so on after I had said 'I can't talk about it'. I ended up putting the phone down on her but the peace of ignorance was broken and I went to the Telegraph to catch up with the awful News ---

You have to pay to read the Telegraph so I'm posting this article instead

The political class has taken back control – from the people.

Don’t believe for one minute the self-aggrandising claims of the Remainer establishment and its noisy cheerleaders in the media. Tonight’s vote by MPs to seize control of the parliamentary agenda in order to prevent a No Deal Brexit is not, as they claim, a wonderful assertion of parliamentary sovereignty against a dictatorial executive led by Boris Johnson.

No, it is an assertion of the political elite’s arrogant authority over the people. If MPs have seized power from anyone this evening, it is from us, the public, the millions who voted to leave the EU. This is not parliament vs the executive – this is parliament vs the people, and it opens up one of the greatest, most troublesome constitutional crises of modern times......................

If Britain just leaves the EU without some kind of agreement on trade etc. Then Britain will die.

Yes, QT, I am afraid you are quite correct. Brits have now learned that they too have a permanently entrenched bureaucratic ruling class, largely impervious to democratic populist influence.

Our nations are afflicted by similar conditions...and approximately 50% of the people are delighted with it.

When I first joined Slate there was a poster called Jack Dallas who went around the board calling other posters edited and or edited. I was astounded to find out that this man was in fact an accredited, published and respected poet - I just couldn't understand how a seemingly highly articulate person could do no more than reply in monosyllables to every post he replied to--- now, all these years later, I do. I perfectly understand him.

Trying to reason with edited, I quickly learned, just didn't work. Calling them edited didn't work either but it was a lot more fun and didn't leave me intellectually drained.

Which is why the English and the Welsh overwhelmingly, with all the odds stacked against us, voted to leave three years ago.

Les Elite, those characterless soulless monsters, for the last three years have done everything they could to ruthlessly thwart that truly pure democratic vote after years and years and years of their having relentlessly weakened all that we were. None of us think that Boris is our good hero and superman. He will not deliver us from all evils but he is trying to deliver us our first blow to Les Elite - he is a clever man, a history boff, but --- my God the Devil is mighty in the Houses of Parliament, eh?

They can vote any way they please.
They are our reps, we lend them our vote for them to represent our wishes and now are voting directly against our wishes. That is not representative of our vote.

Since the last election Corbyn has been hysterically demanding a new election - now that Boris has agreed to one Corbyn is determined to block it???? Why so?
