Barack Obama was one of the most academically accomplished men ever to serve as President of the United States, having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from Columbia University in New York in 1983, and a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School in 1993, where he was elected president of the Harvard Law Review.
If he had wanted to know more about his father’s East African heritage, there was no difficulty. Slaves, Spices & Ivory in Zanzibar: Integration of an East African Commercial Empire into the World Economy, 1770–1873, a study by Professor Abdul Sheriff of the School of Oriental and African Studies at London University, was published by James Currey (London), Heinemann (Nairobi), Tanzania Publishing House (Dar es Salaam) and Ohio University Press (Athens, Ohio, in the US), in 1987.
True, the Luo – living on the coast of Lake Victoria in the west of Kenya and speaking a Nilotic language, having been driven south 800 years previously by the Arab Muslim conquest of South Sudan – do not seem to have been affected, or greatly affected, by the East African slave trade. Its victims were drawn principally from the Bantu-speaking peoples of the “Zanj” nearer the east coast in present-day Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique.
But this was no reason for Barack Obama to ignore this great fact of his father’s national heritage, with a direct moral relation to his own “inheritance” as an African American.
With this blocked view of a tragic East African history, he has done black studies, and black people generally, no favours.

Thank you for these four links. I couldn't read the fourth one because of technical issues. I did read the first three.
Of the first three, only the third had any mention of Kenya. To my understanding, the article stated that Muslims enslaved the Kenyan people. Those slaves were not bought to America. I had read that most slaves bought to America came from Central and West Africa. Kenya is in East Africa.
So, Barack Obama's ancestors couldn't have been the slave traders who sent slaves to America. We'll have to tell Dawg that.
Very interesting article. But, how does it relate to Obama's ancestors being slave traders?
Of course I know why Africans were enslaved. The Europeans, who colonized this country, needed a source of cheap labor. They were not able to enslave the poor Whites or Native Americans. ( Google: Bacon's Rebellion) So, they enslaved Africans.

1 thing I disagree with is the claim that the Constitution didn’t mention race. Wtf does “Indians” mean if it is not a reference to race?
2nd, the argument about the abolition of the slave trade is disingenuous. The main reason the slave trade was abolished in 1808 was the interest of Virginia’s mass-slave-breeding plantations in limiting competition.

Gilbert did some serious shoe leather reporting as well. He visited all the relevant Miami-area high schools, the neighborhoods where Martin and his friends hung out, the streets of Miami’s Little Haiti, and the town community where Martin died.
At the end of his research, Gilbert knew Trayvon Martin better than his parents did, literally. As their deposition revealed, they had no idea how Martin’s life had descended into a violent mix of street fighting, guns, drugs, burglary, and sex. Although both parents made good incomes, their separate lives created an abyss where a home should have been, and their once promising son fell straight to the bottom of it.
Unwilling to accept their own responsibility for his demise, they took the bait promised by the family attorneys and sweetened by the media and projected their guilt on to George Zimmerman. Although an Obama supporter and civil rights activist, the half-Hispanic Zimmerman proved to be just white enough to play the “racist” killer role in the unholy melodrama that followed.

Surveilling a burglary suspect does not rise to the level of attack. Zimmerman was doing his job as neighborhood watch. Zimmerman did NOT initiate the confrontation. If it had been proven he had, he would have been charged. The Central Florida DAs would have given ANYTHING to have put this Hispanic on trial because the city streets were being threatened by New Black Panther creatures. If there had been ANYTHING even remotely suggesting Zimmerman's guilt, he would have been put on trial.
That animal basically sucker punched Zimmerman and tried to kill him. Zimmerman defended himself with deadly force and spared the world a lot of misery.
