This isn't going to be a popular opinion but if Trump impeached and booted it'll be over Syria.

Many in the GOP have put up with a lot from Trump because of the strong support from his base but now he's getting in to defense industry stuff. Perpetual War is a very serious business and they can't use chemical attacks to dupe him in to changing his mind 3 times in a row without being too obvious, so he's gone through with it this time.

You already see rumblings from people like Powell and Graham, the latter of which has been a staunch Trump supporter since McCain's death, and the rumblings are going to get louder as time goes on and every dead Kurd gets its own headline on CNN and Fox alike. I think getting out of Syria is the right thing to do but some very powerful people with very deep pockets disagree with me, and with Trump.

Republicans who would not normally want to impeach and remove a president from their own party may start thinking differently as they realize this impeachment thing gives them a chance of getting rid of Trump without having to have the JFK discussion.

Sure, all over Syria. Where we had just a handful of soldiers (I heard maybe 25). I'm glad he's getting them out, how are they going to help if Turkey attacks??? Leftists here cried every day when our men and women were at war over there, now Trump does something to save what men are there and he's wrong at this too.

I agree with you to a point, and what's more I agree with getting out of Syria. I think it was a few hundred soldiers we had over there and not 25 but still there's no way that was all that was holding Turkey back. It's not numbers that held them back it was our presence period. Our withdrawal allows them to fill the vacuum. The swiftness of their response makes me wonder if they did get a green light to go in hard, but not from Trump. Bad headlines coming out of there, and it happened lightning fast.

We're not in the middle east for altruistic reasons. We're there for geopolitical reasons and perhaps to an even greater extent we're there so our(and our "enemies") war machines can be spent and destroyed and replaced at great profit. The people who seek to profit from this have very deep ties to Washington. They don't give a damn about things like Ukrainian or Russian meddling but they sure do give a damn about their profitable wars.

Edit to add: You're also correct that the left's objection to this withdrawal is opportunistic in nature and not for ideological reasons.

Turkey would never have attacked if American soldiers were there, even a handful of them.

That is the whole point. Trump gave them permission. He betrayed our allies. He will lose Republican support and Evangelical support.

He deserves to.

He betrayed our most effective allies in The fight against ISIS.

Nobody gives a good god damn about the Kurds, least of all the people who want us to stay in Syria. They are just the latest excuse as to why this war can never end. He deserves to lose support from the point of view of someone who is profiting from the war, someone who is beholden to those profiting from it, or for partisan reasons.

The Syrian war was started over an oil pipeline we don't even need anymore now that we're largely energy independent. ISIS gained a foothold because America supplied them with weapons to fight Assad. I'm not even going to mention what president that happened under because in these matters our presidents are mere puppets and not policy makers.

Why would he lose the Evangelical support?
Most 'Republicans' that I know thought he did the right thing. I'm sure some didn't, but I doubt enough to hurt him.

The American Military gives a good God damn about the Kurds.

Pat Robertson said by abandoning our allies he lost the mandate of God or something.

Pat Robertson is "appalled" by Trump's decision to withdraw U.S. troops from northern Syria: "The President of the United States is in great danger of losing the mandate of Heaven if he permits this to happen."

The issue is not so much taking troops out of Syria as much as it is giving the green light to Turkey to slaughter the Kurds and anyone else who helped implement the brilliant Obama/DOD plan to oust ISIS.

Making it even more egregious, Trump makes this decision despite his self-admitted conflicts of interest via-a-vis Turkey. As always with Trump, one is left to wonder - whose interests is he advancing? The nation or his own?

Horrifying.

You have no problem with betraying our most effective allies in the fight against ISIS?

Sad.

What happened to American honor?
I think there's more to this than what the media is telling us. There usually is.
Lets wait and see, huh?

More to this story.

"News from Syria is sickening," Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, the third-ranking Republican in the House, tweeted Wednesday, echoing lawmakers across the spectrum. "Turkish troops preparing to invade Syria from the north, Russian-backed forces from the south, ISIS fighters attacking Raqqa. Impossible to understand why @realDonaldTrump is leaving America's allies to be slaughtered and enabling the return of ISIS."
