So, what should we do about health care reform?

Agree in part, especially the exorbitant charge part. There is no pressure to change the status quo. If people were savvier (sp?) and took control such that demand were directed at cost effective providers...price would consequently, or could consequently be forced lower. Too many are dumber than bricks..and they're taken advantage of
And maybe then patients could hire retired nurses or government could supply social workers who would by savy in such things to advise dumb brick people? New job classification.

Yes, it's completely moronic to place any amount of faith in humanity. Everyone should just expect Everyone else to be @$$hole price-gougers.
Huh? Didn't you just relent in another thread on patent protection...oh welling getting f'd over on IP rights?!? Odd contradiction.
Seems to me your position here should be.. oh well...if people get steam rolled...so be it.

Incongruous positions...

No, patent protections are f'cking consumers over, by artificially denying them competition.

When did Trump say he was going to "radically shake up society?" Link?
I never said it was a quote. But all his promises were of that nature. He had to be trusted with unprecedented power because only he could fix things. He was going to be an agent of change who would “drain the swamp” that was the U.S. as we knew it.

So says a self-reporting communist dictatorship.

Tough luck for confiscating private property. But actually the whole world especially China are free to trade with Cuba. They only get sanctions if they are doing business on confiscated private property. The rest of your characterization is just off base unless you've just forgotten to get the wikipedia article back on the communist loving track?

No, so says the World Bank, despite its obvious anti-Cuba bias.
what are you alleging is untrue?

Anything about Cuba that they self-report to any international body AND the idea that the rest of the world can't or won't trade with Cuba. The wikipedia link clearly speaks to that trade part.

Yup. His whole shtick was “Make America Great Again” - a pledge to transform the nation.

Personally, I liked it better before Trump and the GOP turned it into a banana republic.

1. it’s not “self-reported.” It is determined by the World Bank which systematically rejects the numbers given them by any of the countries they check and looks for objective evidence instead.
2. I never said goods don’t get through the blockade, I said that Cuba pays a premium for them.

Not true. These things are self-reported. The World Bank has neither the access nor the funding to perform direct surveys or studies on these matters.

A premium? You mean they can't play off European and SE Asia suppliers? Commies are pretty dumb then.

The ACA already does that through expanded Medicaid. Charging the working poor extra taxes for it sounds good on paper, but it’s really unworkable for those living hand to mouth.

Anyway, there’s no reason a blue ribbon panel needs to be dismissed out of hand as “partisan.” It’s a matter of numbers crunching and there’s limited finagling one can do with numbers. No business would evaluate different proposals without comparing the numbers. We should approach the issue like a business would and analyze the differential costs.
Sounds good.

The problem with ACA of course was that we knew the young healthy would not sign up and would not pay for it. Which they didn't. And of course those of us that lost our insurance because of ACA.

But I'm good with your plan here.

Ha ha. The World BANK doesn’t have the funding? The CIA doesn’t supply a ready cadre of spies for all the human intelligence they could ever ask for?

Cuba has negotiated very well for itself. But countries are reluctant for example to sell it radioactive materials, which means it can neither import X-ray machines nor build their own without going through both China and the U.S. Because no other source dares to sell it, and China doesn’t dare to sell it without an OK from the U.S.

It is clear that the composers of the CIA factbook use national self-reported figures. I never implied otherwise.

The U.S. does not embargo humanitarian goods to Cuba (including food) and I'm sure Canada or Europe would tell the U.S. to [Unwelcome language removed] itself in the selling of even radiation containing medical products. You'll have to bring proof on that.
