ReallyThe concept and practice is not new... however, this is the first time government is mandating social distancing, it is actually law, now. Did you know a cop can write you a ticket for standing closer than 6 feet to another person in public? Technically, it is now against the law to walk hand in hand down the street with your sweetheart.
1984 was so 36 years ago.Really
The reality...Brother, can you lend me a jack-hammer? When do you begin listening?
1) The vaccine already exists and is in testing.
2) The virus is another strain of the SARS flu.
3) Therapy exists, what on earth do you think happens in hospitals?
4) The mortality rate (a guesstimate at this point in time) is 2-3%, not 15%. And those are happening in the hospitals.
Hope is not a plan, but there is no way COVID-19 will ever be “just like the flu” for the reasons I noted above.what's not going to happen? how do you know?
it may become like the flu, it may not
it may mutate and go away.. it may not.
we may find a vaccine, we may not.
you have no idea, neither do i.
masks, etc.. yes. we will have to prepare. which we are
All I am grasping is YOU stuck in spin mode. The reality...
1. A vaccine, if developed, will not be available for widespread use for at least a year. And the top post poses the question - how should we preparing for the next phase assuming we do not have a vaccine for a year. Any thoughts on that?
2. The COVID-19 is not a flu virus at all. It’s a coronavirus.
3. Therapies do not yet exist - not proven therapies anyway. You seem to be confusing things like ventilation with therapies. Therapies are drugs that partially treat or cure the infection.
4. As to the mortality rate, I note yet again - the hospitalization rate for those infected is about 15% - WAY higher than for the flu. Those people, and others with other diseases and injuries, will die if the health care system collapses. And even with a fully functioning health care system, which will not be the case, some 2-3% of those infected will die. A WAY higher fatality rate than with the flu.
I hope you now grasp these things.
things arenet happening now?Hope is not a plan, but there is no way COVID-19 will ever be “just like the flu” for the reasons I noted above.
And planning for the next phase requires far more than many millions of masks, whereas now even health care workers are still begging for them. The top post sets forth a number of proposals. They require planning NOW, and it is just not being done.
No it isn't. If you knew anything about pandemics you'd know that this isn't even the first time things like this were enforced by law. Read up on the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic sometime..... if you can actually read. The concept and practice is not new... however, this is the first time government is mandating social distancing, it is actually law, now. Still making personal attacks, huh? Too hard to abide by the rules? No it isn't. If you knew anything about pandemics you'd know that this isn't even the first time things like this were enforced by law. Read up on the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic sometime..... if you can actually read.
You say baseless things, I correct them, you ignore what I say, and you then say the same baseless things all over again. All I am grasping is YOU stuck in spin mode.
1) Yes there is a vaccine and it is in testing. RIGHT NOW. There is talk at the highest levels of fast tracking the testing. Expect to see it go mainstream way faster than the usual 6 months to one year. Trump is pushing for that, too.
2) COVID-19 is a respiratory disease, like the flu, it is another strain of the SARS virus. By common use of language, it is another flu bug. Like the Spanish Flu... Respiratory diseases are commonly termed flu viruses. Why would you say it is "not a flu virus at all"? That's exactly what it is. You are quibbling over a label, we all understand it is another highly contagious virus... and those are commonly referred to as flu bugs.
3) Therapies exist and are being administered. There's a couple of drugs that were already on the market that are being given and they are effective. Duh, this is another flu virus, we have all kinds of treatment for flu viruses, we are right now determining which ones are the most effective.
4) You kind of, sort of, fixed yourself on this one. Mortality rate is not based upon lack of hospitalization, we are running short on hospital space but the mortality rate was based upon deaths that were almost 100% in the hospitals, except in the very beginning when they were dying in line for the hospital in Wuhan.
My post is not what occurs 10 years from now or even a year from now. It’s about what’s happening now and how to prepare now for the coming months - the next phase. The topic does not seem to interest you. So be it.things arenet happening now?
how do you know what covid will of will not be...in a year.. in ten years..?
you dont.
what does "No, it isn't" ...refer to? Are you saying that social distancing was enforced by law before? That would be wrong. Quarantines were enforced by law, not social distancing. No it isn't. If you knew anything about pandemics you'd know that this isn't even the first time things like this were enforced by law. Read up on the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic sometime..... if you can actually read.
translation: you totally got me on all 4 points. You say baseless things, I correct them, you ignore what I say, and you then say the same baseless things all over again.
You’re hopeless. Your cultism overcomes any sense of reason you ever had.
If you really can read try reading this:what does "No, it isn't" ...refer to? Are you saying that social distancing was enforced by law before? That would be wrong. Quarantines were enforced by law, not social distancing.
I can actually read, if that was a serious question in your mind.
How can I say this softly? Your politics are not based upon an intelligent comprehension of history. If you really can read try reading this:
The 1918 Influenza Epidemic in New York City: A Review of the Public Health Response
New York City approached the 1918 influenza epidemic by making use of its existing robust public health infrastructure. Health officials worked to prevent the spread of contagion by distancing healthy New Yorkers from those infected, increasing disease ...www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
From the article:
IBiggs' spitting campaign also included fines and arrests for violation of the Sanitary Code. In writing about the extent and efficacy of the Department of Health's anti-spitting campaign in 1908, Biggs wrote that arrests of spitters by the “sanitary police of the Department” were constant and, as a result, “spitting is much less prevalent than it was a few years ago, although still much remains to be desired.”34
Numerous other instance can be found.
It's too bad you can't fix stupid. If you could then we wouldn't have a GOP.

Swine Flu was an epidemic. COVID is an epidemic. The widespread use of "pandemic" for it is incorrect.And....
No pandemic
No market crash
No 3Million new claims for unemployment in one week
The two lines contradict each other and prove my point. Thanks. No complaints that the President wasn't handling things well
and tons of right wing bullshit trying to blame Obama for it while the system worked smoothly.
Did you see the article about the 21 year old soccer coach who died from COVID?Next------many more will survive than die
The number surviving is never posted of
101 year old man survived in Italy
No. You just don't like what I'm saying. The fact of the matter is everywhere you look cities towns municipalities etc or all preparing, are all practicing social distancing, venues are closed, people are washing their hands, covering their faces, millions upon millions of masks are on order, it is flowing everywhere you look. Not sure what more you would like me to say. Although I imagine it is something to the effect of despite all that it is all Trump's fault. Does that make you feel better? My post is not what occurs 10 years from now or even a year from now. It’s about what’s happening now and how to prepare now for the coming months - the next phase. You can only make noise.translation: you totally got me on all 4 points.
Don't sweat it, this stuff is all new, and you are correct about the government giving mixed signals. The information being passed around is all geared to make people react the way they want people to react; they don't want us truly informed, they just want to push us around. So, right now, stay home, "stay safe", but once the curve is flattened, go back to work, and pass around the virus.
Again, the top post of this thread is not about what is going on now with social distancing, hand washing, etc. Did you read it? It’s about the next phase of this crisis, after the growth in the rate of contagion has been (hopefully) dramatically lowered. It’s a new topic - looking down the road and asking what we should be doing now to prepare for it and the gradual reopening of the economy. Planning. It’s not that I don’t like what you have said about the topic - you haven’t addressed that topic.No. You just don't like what I'm saying.
