How would YOU seal the borders?

Napalm to soften it up and then cluster bombs on a periodic basis just to keep would be coyotes and their passengers on their toes. Of course I might hold back on the official border crossings just as a courtesy to the U.S. citizens working there. But then again . . . .

#1. A Series of Walls, Fences, Drones, and, remote cameras, detection equipment, etc.
#2. Allow Ranchers, and Land owners to make "citizens arrests," of those who come across their land. At the VERY LEAST, put some legal teeth into "NO TRESSPASSING" laws....
#3. Set up a few "Base Camps" for the numerous National Guards out there, who occassionally go to train in parts of Arizona and Nevada to acclimate to "desert conditions." Simply rotate Guards in and out of BORDER Base Camps. The mere pressence of more organized military will dissuade some. Perhaps have "training" (NON-LETHAL, of course), in which these Guards men patrol, capture, and detain those comming across illegally.
#4. BAN and destroy any and all of the "water stations," etc. set up by dogooders, to make it as easy to tresspass as possible.
#5. And, while I understand we will NEVER do this, I feel it would be one of the BEST Deterrents: Make WAR on the Cartels and Coyotes who smuggle both people, and drugs over the border. Capture a few of these Coyotes, who carry people across in trucks, often in incredibly dangerous conditions...pull them out of their trucks...take them to the side, and, shoot them in the head. TELEVISE it. Trust me...the Coyotes will diminish greatly in numbers. Same for the Drug Trade. Either the Cartels will cease and desist, or, the price of illicit drugs will skyrocket, as part of the costs....
#6. On the OPPOSITE END (This will NEVER be done, either...), streamline and fast track immigration, and/or work visas for MEXICAN citizens. Then, go down the list to other nations in Central and South America, where many of these illegals are comming from.

We could just invade Mehico. EVERYONE, except for Corrupt Mexican Politicians, and Gang Lords, would be BETTER OFF!

So, I suppose, that is the best reason NOT to do anything....

The same way Mexico seals its southern border. Put troops on the border and shoot anyone who tries to come across.
It wouldn't cost much; we'd probably only have to shoot a couple hundred of them before they quit trying.

Were being a little unfair on both counts.
The Mexican authorities don't shoot unwanted intruders. I can only speculate what they actually do.
We have heard horror stories, and there aren't exactly many checks and balances over yonder.

Use the McArthur method. Drop a line of atomic bombs along the border. That region is mostly Sonora desert, atomic bombs would turn it all to glass and make it radioactive as all hell. Not near as radioactive as the solar wind, but plenty forbidding.

I think the best course of action is a combination of a larger military presence on the border, more pressure on Mexico to discourage illegal immigration, and ending the gravy train of benefits for those here illegally.
- Reservists are required to do one week of training a year, on top of other commitments, and that training could just as easily be done near the US/Mexico border.
- The United States spends a fortune on Mexico through aid and anti-drug law commitments. We should revoke all aid until they take steps to discourage illegal immigration. Let them put their military on the border and build a fence.
- In many cases illegal immigrants risk their lives to cross the border and they do so because it's worth their while. The United States should better enforce laws against employers who hire illegal immigrants and check for citizenship before enrolling in schools, admitting patients into hospitals when possible, etc. People shouldn't also simply become U.S. citizens for being born on U.S. soil. We're on a short list of countries who actually operate that way.
I think that would go a long way toward discouraging future illegal immigration and also pushing current illegals out.
