Yep, what is it now a week without power, food and water? If FEMA gets any faster everyone will be dead by the time they get to the NY/NJ areas.

ORR
I was 5 days without power and water...and that's in Maryland, which wasn't hard hit.

Staten Island is not cut off from the world. There are roads, but the area struck by devastation is massive. It will take time to repair all the damage.

Are you suggesting we privatize emergency relief management?

All I know was that Bush was a racist (according to the left) because he didn't get FEMA into New Orleans fast enough after Katrina, to help all those poor blacks, but with Obama all the left can say is it take time to get in and help, double standard if you ask me.

Well...for starters, I didn't ask you. However, if you cannot see the difference in the circumstances, I cannot help you. There are no stranded folks in Staten Island as there were in New Orleans. The scope of Sandy is massive...as you very well know, since you have kept informed of the destruction.

So...it appears you demand that all damage be repaired instantly, or else...I guess...you're calling Obama a racist because Staten Island is 64% white and Obama is delaying assistance on purpose. KInda lame idea, if you ask me.

So...instead of carping about it...try answering the question regarding privatization...Are you suggesting it? Or are you solely here to bitch and moan?

There were no stranded people? Lets see, house condemned unfit to live in, not being able to get gas to travel to a relative or friend's home, no food, no water, no sanitary facilities, what is your defination of stranded? Like I said double standard. That's right you didn't ask me, but you put your nose into my thread, so if you don't like it depart.

Roads.

The Superdome and the Moriel Convention Center were not just cut off from services, they were cut off from road access. Not the case in Staten Island. You know this. You have seen the photos of NJ and NY devastation. You have read of the subway flooding...yet you still want to compare uncomparables.

The residents were warned for a week...but they didn't fill up their cars with gas? I guess that was their fault, wouldn't you agree? Like I said...I had no water and no power for 5 days. But...I had heeded the warnings and had a full tank of gas...a kerosene heater primed and ready...10 gallons of store bought water and a bathtub filled for flushing. My grill had a nearly full propane tank.

Here's an idea. You and these guys are all so very independent from the government, why don't they just build it? They don't need roads...or bridges...or FEMA...all they need to do is build it. All by themselves.

So...again...Are you suggesting we privatize emergency management services. For some reason, you simply refuse to answer the question.

As to "your thread"...what are you? Nine? You presented a thread for public PJ perusal which means it's open for comment. Don't like my comments? Boo frickin hoo...

No I would propose that FEMA be sent to the states where it can be handled better. The federal government can't do anything correct or on time. So you were the one person of the millions in the area that was prepared, that doesn't denote the fact that many more weren't and your callious attitude toward those who weren't is very telling.

Then there is the fact that FEMA that is suppose to be there to help in these disasters closed because of a snow storm leaving the people high and dry once again. They got their asses to safety just like Nagel (the Democratic mayor) of New Orleans did during Katrina, making sure atleast his worthless butt was safe and secure.

You are the one who started with the pissy attitude not me. Get over yourself and address the issues and perhaps we could have a decent conversation. The problem is the left holds their government programs in such high stead they don't want them critized under a Democratic President. Well what FEMA proved is that these programs don't work as they are meant to and if they don't work than they should be turned over to the states or eliminated.

Yeah...I have a pissy attitude. It's because I have to deal with folks who can't think beyond the cast of a 25 watt bulb. What's your excuse?

So...you don't really propose a damn thing. Eliminate it? Brilliant. That would really move things along. That is the "you built it" philosophy. Screw 'em...they can do it themselves. Let the states do it? Louisiana is poor. New Orleans still isn't rebuilt 7 years later. Note. 7 years. Then we have redundancy issues, as has been pointed out to you. It simply makes no sense whatsoever and would cost each state many millions to keep the equipment at the ready. We have no idea when or what disasters will arise.

So you want everything restored to normal in a week...after one of the largest storms in the history of the nation rolled through the densest population centers. NJ was hit the hardest...and Governor Christie disagrees with your every assessment. The weather service warned and warned and warned people about the destruction that was going to come. Millions took the warning seriously. I was one of them. Isn't that what you damn righties preach? Accountability. But now...when people failed to heed warnings...you state FEMA does not work. FEMA is not perfect...and there is no private concern...or state concern that would be satisfying you in the face of this widespread misery.

Millions of people were prepared...but damn...look at the scope of the storm. 8.5 million lost power. Seabright NJ is destroyed. Breezy Point is gone. Rockaways devastated...Boardwalks all over the seaboard ripped from their pilings...thousands of houses ruined. The people on Staten Island were not for a minute disconnected physically from the rest of the world. The bridges remained intact...and those that made the proper preparations as per the week's worth of warnings aren't suffering the same as those that didn't.

I've addressed issues...and continue to do so. You merely say FEMA doesn't work. I say a NYEMA would have fared far worse. Manhattan would take priority...because it does. Backwaters with little economic activity would be placed on the back burner. No state has the wealth to handle such disaster on their own.

Again...the scope of this storm was gigantic. There will always be folks at the end of the journey. It's rough for those folks...but to blame the federal government for their individual failures is ludicrous.

Dealing with people like you who say I did what I had to so I really don't own those that didn't a damned thing.

I made a proposal, just because you don't like it doesn't mean it won't work. What would you do, allow FEMA to continue down the path they are on and make more lives miserable? When something is broken you either fix it or get rid of it. In the case of FEMA it is time to get rid of it, it is beyond fixing.

I never said that, but it would be nice if the government agencies would do what they are paided to do instead of taking off due to a snow storm and leaving those in need to fend for themselves, now wouldn't that be a novel concept.

Millions of people were prepared...but damn...look at the scope of the storm. 8.5 million lost power. Seabright NJ is destroyed. Breezy Point is gone. The left is always talking about the insensitivity of the right and look what you write here. It doesn't matter that some or most didn't prepare, what matters is that they need help and the federal agency has not done a damned thing, it's been two weeks now.

Blame, blame, blame, that is all the left does is look for someone to blame as long as it isn't their liberal govcernmnet agencies or their tin god president, both of which have not done anything to elievate the suffering.

How is it a "cluster fvck"? Hmm FEMA is in the area with its RELIEF CENTERS... the organizational offices are closed... your point?

No the dishonesty here is FEMA saying,"We're here to help". What they did say is "except in the case of a snowstorm", in which case you are on you own AGAIN.

ORR
Nope... the RELIEF CENTERS are continuing to operate. BUSINESS OFFICES are not.. yes and?

You might want to lay off the booze before typing.

You have offered ZERO evidence that FEMA has made any lives "more miserable".. Your whole "proposal" is predicated on things that are not facts.

The left is always talking about the insensitivity of the right and look what you write here.
Um where is the "insensitivity"? It was a litany of the fact that FEMA has a lot to do and is continuing to do it. Business Offices are not RELIEF CENTERS or SERVICE CENTERS

And it is just dishonest to claim that "the federal agency has not done a damn thing".

FACTS ORR FACTS

not your echo chamber claims.

Friday13

Governor
The residents were warned for a week
So imagine how we felt in the '94 quake...3 AM...no warning for those. We were without power for 4 days, and the aftershocks kept coming and they were not small. January, sleeping in the driveway with our guns, cooking on a campstove, cars without lights cruising the neighborhoods for homes to loot, people crushed under apartment buildings, freeway overpasses falling down, roads destroyed, liquifaction sinking buildings. One week warning would have been wonderful.

Obama made one obligatory trip to NJ, hugged the fat guy, made a lot of bullshit promises then flew out and never gave the people a second thought. Liberals fell for it.

Just one more thing old pal.
<<<Obama made one obligatory trip to NJ, hugged the fat guy, made a lot of bullshit promises then flew out and never gave the people a second thought. Liberals fell for it. >>>

That's rich, how you talking about the fat guy.

I once made a comment about how I never gave exploding the hearts of goats much serious consideration. However exploding a man's junk by thinking about it would have practical military applications.
