Let's talk about California. They have a fiscal problem certainly, mainly because of the limit on property taxes. And they have environmental and agricultural problems certainly, mainly because of global warming, overirrigation, and overplanting (although the state has at least begun to regulate it here, more than in, say, Arizona, which is facing dire environmental problems of its own). But it is extremely facile to blame Mexicans for it.
Now let's talk about Mexican communists. The Mexican communists have been fighting for decades to hold their oligarchs accountable, to create a democratic Mexico, to protect workers, peasants, and students from exploitation, to defend the autonomy of Native Americans, etc. But the Mexican capitalists, largely relying on plans drawn up in the U.S., have turned Mexico into a semicolony producing low-cost goods for foreign markets. So many Mexican communists (and other radicals) have fled to the U.S. They may vote for the Communist Party, they may vote for the Socialist Workers Party, but the point is that they bring their radical politics with them and pose the same dangers for the American elites that they posed for the Mexican elites. They see their children exploited and undereducated even though they are U.S. citizens, and it makes them angry. They see the children of the white working class exploited and undereducated as well, and that makes them angry as well. And they stand up.
And this is exactly what the ruling class can't stand. They don't want workers (whether their ancestry is Mexican, German, Irish, Jewish, or Black) to challenge the system. They don't want workers to join unions and mobilize their power to solve problems. They don't want workers to draw the line on safety on the job, taxes out of our pockets, or environmental protection. They just want workers to do as their told for as little as they afford to pay them. So they want to take the vote away from people born in the U.S. to Mexican parents. They want to take the vote away from Blacks. They want to take the vote away from poor whites. They want to deport Mexicans that speak out against the government, whether they are here legally or not. Because they know that communism is a movement that knows no political boundaries, that spreads like wildfire anywhere the working class is actually exposed to it, and that can bury their system once and for all.
Immigration laws are the ruling class's way of saying, "You can come here and work for low wages. But you better keep your eyes, ears, and mouth closed. Because the first attempt you make to educate and assist the American worker in the class struggle, you will be deported."
