Proof That Gun's Don't Kill People.

Today I swung my front door wide open and placed my AR-15 right in the doorway. I fed it a 30 round magazine, leaving the chamber empty; I even placed it in a wheelchair to help it get around.
I then left it alone and went about my business.

While I was gone, the mailman delivered my mail, the neighbor boy across the street mowed the yard, a girl walked her dog down the street, and quite a few cars stopped at the stop sign right in front of our house.
After about an hour, I checked on the gun. It was still sitting there in the wheelchair, right where I had left it. It hadn't rolled itself outside. It certainly hadn't killed anyone, even with the numerous opportunities it had been presented to do so. In fact, it hadn't even loaded itself.

You can imagine my surprise, with all the media hype about how dangerous guns are and how they kill people. Either the media is wrong and it's the misuse of guns by PEOPLE that kills people, or I'm in possession of the laziest gun in the world.

Well, I'm off to check on my dinner plates. I hear they're making people fat.

Well, based on that post I guess we can do away with background checks, eh.

Silly goofball we know that! Guns never kill. Most people die because their body parts blow into little pieces inside. Like if your gun is sitting on the porch and someone picks it up or it falls and fires and you allow your body parts to get in the way and it hits you in the stomach, the acid from your stomach will leak out- not good, or if you get hit in the heart (nevermind, you're dead,) in the lower brain or spinal cord - messages shut off, lung- may suffocate, intestines can cause bacteria, major vein, or artery, death usually.

Everyone knows that.

Seems like a good reason to confiscate this bozo's arsenal.
I don't know.... you think taking away the private property of someone who hasn't done anything wrong, and has hurt no one, is appropriate in this case? I think the word for that would be "theft", not "confiscate".....

If that bozo actually did what he says he did, then he DID do something wrong. Read your firearm safety handbook, courtesy of the NRA.

Don't put yourself in the same class as the top poster, when it comes to the lack of intelligence.

If you were actually stupid enough to do what you say in your post, then you'd be the poster child for "Who is dumber than a 4th grader".

Well, it's not how I store my guns, but it was on his property, in his house; somebody would have to trespass at a minimum, before they could access it. If you leave your keys in your car and someone steals it, your carelessness doesn't make them any less guilty of theft, does it? Legally and morally, he did nothing wrong with his little experiment and yet MV suggests "confiscating" his property? No, I don't think so..... that's just flat-assed theft.

Leaving a gun on his front porch is the act of a responsible gun owner?

So if a child walks up on his porch and thinks it is a toy you don't think the resulting lawsuit for "attractive nuisance" would be well deserved? How about the felony negligence charge?

You should dress up your AR-15 like a chick, put her in the passenger seat and use the carpool lane. The highway patrol guys will LOVE it!

Now I'd have thought you'd be the kind of advocate of personal responsibility that you'd be in favor of consequences for someone so irresponsible....how about this case...a 6 year old kid killed by a friend who picks up a gun left unattended?

No, it isn't, but an irresponsible act, in and of itself, is neither illegal, unethical, or immoral. Now, when something bad happens as a result, then we all get to jump and down on that person's scrotum, but until that occurs, it's a free country. Your post suggested that it would be appropriate to "confiscate" his property because something might happen..... no; no way. That kind of thinking is IMO, wrongheaded and it has no place in a free society, or among free people.

I do advocate personal responsibility, but not at the cost of personal freedom. Tell me how stepping in and "confiscating" someone's possessions, because of concern that something might go wrong, is "advocating for personal responsibility"? If and when something goes bad, I advocate severe and immediate consequences for whoever had the bad judgment to allow it to occur. But until then, all you can do is try to educate the individual. When I was a kid, guns were often kept unsecured on horizontal gun racks on a wall, or in glass fronted gun cabinets that, while they had locks, were more decorative than anything else. You rarely see that anymore because most people have learned their lesson about that kind of thing. You walk into a Gander Mountain or a Bass Pro shop and you'll see a lot more gun safes for sale, than old style gun cabinets or racks.

When and if that happens, get after it; I'll be right there with you. But, not until then.....
