Our New Baby Boy

That's why I don't have a dog yet, Queen...... I can't decide. I absolutely love dogs, cats......you name it (I practically got attached to the possum we found in a tree in our yard). But my Maine Coon Bob is getting old and he's been diabetic for 6 years (two shots a day) and I know he won't last forever. We had a Springer/Border Collie mix that lived to be 16 and he was the best dog in the world. Time for another dog. I don't think I have 100 more years left in me......... but I do want a Yorkie. BobCat would prefer a Mastiff.

I, however, am a rescue pet person...........all my pets have been rescues...... Bought BobCat in a feed store in Eagle River Alaska. Got Baby, my other happy little cat at PetSmart (fresh from the shelter). So I will no doubt end up with the luck of the draw. My cousin has a friend who rescues tiny dogs before they get to the shelter.....and I have word out that I'd like one. But it'll be a mix.

Bobcat has already got one Mastiff next door :) Thats the other thing two big dogs may not get on as well as a tiny bossy boots and a gentle giant might.

Spanials are untrainable rascals ................ good luck sweety but please try not to take on a big one ................. nothing worse than feeling overwhelmed by that which you love ............ a little scruff can melt the hearts of the biggest men I have seen my nextdoor neighbours' husband, a big strong no nonsense northerner with the tiniest Yorky ( now deceased ) in his hand, she big boss and he a lump of butter so proud of her he was ........ funny xxxx

And yes there are far too many 'unwanted ones' in our messed up societies rrescuers are Angels as far as I am concerned :)

The Swiss have it as a law that no one may own any pet at all unless they have done a six week long evening class on their pet of choice. I'm not that fond of the Swiss, on the whole, but I wish we all had such structers in place and that 'bloody' Breeders were not so plentiful.

Funny but we kind of rescued our black Shar Pei Sparky but not really as my best friend could no longer care for him. Sparky ruled our family. We lost him when he was 14 yrs old as you know. You just don't get over it like one would expect. It takes a long time and more and they never really go away. When we finally decided after a year to get a puppy we made the mistake of going to a very reputable Shar Pei breeder and almost before we knew it Wrinky was in our home. I think his baby pictures were unfair with cuteness. We got him to help ease a pain that would not go away but he is his own little man. What we learned is that finding the right one starts wherever you look and for us it added up to any future dog being a rescue dog. We were heading that way anyway before we spotted our baby boy. He ruined everything. ;)

The town we live in is nothing but rescue dogs matched to happy and proud parents. I love it.

As were your babies and the baby you still have. It broke my heart for you to read your post and see those beautiful babies and brought back my own pain over only one loss. I can't even imagine what you went through. I tried to answer you and couldn't because I know that kind of pain. They are our babies. I noticed all your dogs looked directly into the camera and oddly that was the melting point for us with Wrinky. They had pictures of all the puppies being puppies but Wrinky was the intelligent little guy staring at the camera. I'll show you that picture one day. This puppy helped ease some pain in our case. It is not for everyone but we just did not seem to be able to move forward from the loss of Sparky. Wrinky helped us.

Thanks.

I'll let you know when I get my tiny mix of a dog. I think you are right when you say "nothing worse than feeling overwhelmed by that which you love". The problem won't be loving it......I will love my doggie even if it's the ugliest mix on earth........ but a big dog could overwhelm and THAT was precisely the bit of advice I needed to see.

When I finally manage to get more photos onto the contraption I'll post one of the five together in the snow, before little Louly died.
It is a very odd thing living within a pack, when you tell one off they all slink off with their tails between their legs ...or if you are cross with one all the others come and say they are sorry and try to make you laugh. The same if you are being silly with one, everyone wags their tails and you end up in a heap with everyone wanting their tummies tickled ....brushing time and or teeth cleaning time was hilarious but I would have to get so cross .......... I've only got two hands !!!!! Bath time nd ear cleaning time or oving the furniture to clean behind the sofa !!!!! Oh God you'd think it was the end of the World ................... and if a Police or Ambulence went by, sitting in a room with five Alsations howling was eeerie ....And thunder !!!!! lol I can't even begin to tell how hilarious it was ........... lol
The loss though, I have hardly cryed. like you I do when I hear of others losses but not my own ........... too big I supose. It will be when Sunny goes that I will truly moarn I think ..I will lock myself in for a month and just howl :) Like a lone wolf.

They, though when they loose one, play afterwards, and as you watch, they play the games of the one who is gone ..........they remember in joy. They do all they can to be happy, they truly fight unhappiness like the plague. They except and adapt to the reality.

I bury mine in the garden so that the others know where they are, I leave the body for at least 24 hrs usually sometimes less sometime more but usually overnight so they can come to terms with it ....... Me too :) As you are filling in the grave they always stop you at one point and have a last sniff, then somehow tell you OK you can cover them up now. Beepy took his Pas ball down and plonked it on his grave and gave me a happy little look, he took it back just before he himself died .amazing stories and wonderful teachers.

I expect your Sparky went and found your Wrinkly for you and lead you to him xxxxx he is with in Wrinkly too and will be enjoying your pleasure of each other :)

Another funny thing about a pack ...often I found I could only teach one a certian trick ........if I tryed teaching another the same trick ..they would look at me as though I had gone funny in the head because that is Teddys' job. why are you asking me to do Teddys' job ...and walk off indignatly ...... leaving me feeling very foolish 'what were you thinking of, asking Beep or Indy or god forbid Sunny to do Teddys' job ?' Louly well she rarely made sense of a thing anyway lol They are one a complete package.

Good xxxxx

My English Mastif, and my black cat,. They sleep together every nite.[/quote

My daughter rescued two dogs.....and then I rescued her marriage! She was going nuts with the constant wrestling and going in and out...and after a days work. Her husband who wanted the dogs, didnt so very much , just love them...it all fell on her. We took one.....and he is PERFECT!

Congrats dear. He is so cute. I also think that you should concern with a doctor for him that may he recommended some more advice for him.

Takes after his mother. LOL
LOL! Like twins! Funny thing is he is full grown now so he has his adult body and you can't see the baby Shar Pei in him but sometimes when he lays down and scrunches up he still looks like this picture still. We almost named him Taz Mania and now that he is grown and we went though his puppy stage, I regret not naming him that. As it stands he is forever Captain Wrinkles (Wrinky).

image.jpg This is the dog I took to save my daughters marriage ..two were too many and they were constantly wrestling. All the work fell on her...so we took this little Heinz. I have never had a dog who is perfect....he is. Hardly barks, obeys , plays endlessly with his toys and is affectionate ....so you get the sense I am in love? My husband, who said no more dogs, is just as much in live with him.

Thank you. We did get the eye surgery when the folds got larger around his eyes and his big brown eyes now show and are so dang cute he melts us. We could barely see his eyes before.
