I like that it saves energy and allows more time for outdoor recreation in the summer. But I'd much prefer that we did year-round DST, as the U.S. and many states used to do, instead of changing the clocks twice per year.

The changing of the clocks is the only thing that bothers me. If schools or businesses need to adjust their schedules in order to maximize their daylight operating hours, they are all free to do so without forcing everyone to reset their clocks.

I know that conventional wisdom holds that farmers were the impetus behind DST. But, I just read that the truth is the exact opposite. The farmers opposed DST. They were able to make better use of the early sunlight, in terms of bringing their goods to market. Evidently, the farmers didn't pay nearly as much attention to clocks as the rest of us do. When the sun came up, they got up and went to work, no matter what the clock said!

It was actually commerce that pushed for DST. When people finish their work day and the sun's still out, they're more likely to shop.

I hate pushing forward for the first day or so. But I love it after that. Just gives you hope after a long dark couple of months.
