We need a real war on drugs

The fact that we are only 5% of the world's population and yet we take 50% of the drugs is pretty sickening. As I've pointed out before, the AMA says that some 125,000 people die each year from prescription and otc drugs and another 2.1 million are injured by them. Given the large of amount of them that we take, it's no wonder.

The current war on drugs has killed how many people? How many have been thrown in jail for simple possession of marijuana that did no harm to them or anyone else? No we need legalize and allow consenting adults to decide and stop this madness.

Boy, did you ever miss the point on this one.

The current 'war on drugs' is on street drugs, and yes it's an abject failure. The drugs I was referring to in this thread are the drugs that people take because they think they'll make them feel better...and they're all legal.

Perhaps I should have said that we need a war on pharmaceutical companies because of the propaganda they use on our public. Americans are absolute pill poppers and the legal drugs/medicines kill a lot more of them than the street drugs do.

No I didn't miss your point, you may have miss mine though. Consenting adults should be able to take what ever they want as long as it'son them and not given to someone else.

While I'm a firm believer in freedom, and that extends to what drugs people can take, I also know that when people are being cleverly manipulated they are not as free as they think they are.

That's why propaganda is so widely used.

What we really need to do is to END the war on drugs! It is Prohibition! Didn't anyone learn anything from the Prohibition of alcohol? Here's what I learned:

1.) It proliferates gangland activity

2.) It forces government expansionism to fight the newly created gangland activity

3.) It is in direct conflict with the Fourth Amendment

4.) It turns our cops into killers, and the government into dealers

5.) It makes the commodity more valuable

6.) It makes the commodity more impure

7.) It has created a Privatized Prison Industrial Complex

8.) It is responsible for a huge proportion of illegal immigration due to Cartel violence

9.) It is inhumane as drug addiction is an illness

10.) IT DOESN'T WORK!!

In 2001 Portugal decriminalized ALL drugs and it has cleaned up the streets! Now Ireland is doing the same thing! It is NOT the governments job to imprison people for drug use! PERIOD! The governments duty ends at informing the public of its dangers not incarcerating us.

Wow, that's an old post! I always loved it when they were brainwashing us all to sell us on this war on drugs and they kept saying "marijuana is the gateway drug!" Yet the gullible American people bought into it hook, line and sinker. I think tobacco and alcohol, the "legal ones" are the gateway drugs and kill more people than all the other drugs combined!
