Nancy Pelosi holds presser to celebrate 4 years of Obamacare

Caroljo

Senator
I just found out today that my daughter's best friend HAD insurance through Obamacare, but then had to drop it! She works full time making only $11.00/hr. She had called Blue Cross 2 or 3 months ago and got signed up for a mid-grade plan, and she got the subsidy so her monthly payment was only $31.00/month! That's a great deal! She was told though that if her income changed at all, up or down, she MUST contact them and let them know. So, when she decided to take a part time job in the evenings at a bar/restaurant, making a whole $2.76/hr plus tips (and you never know how much you will make in tips) she contacted Blue Cross. Because of this 2nd job...she was told she would no longer get the subsidy, and her monthly payments went up to about $250.00/mo!!!!! Guess what....she's no longer insured. She needs to make some extra money because she knows she's going to need another car soon. She's single and on her own, and $11.00/hr doesn't go far. So, now she would be working that 2nd job JUST to make her insurance premium.

The guy at Blue Cross told her that on what he makes there, his premiums also would have been about the same amount. He's opted to pay the penalty....so he WORKS for the insurance company and can't afford it...pretty crazy huh? I wonder how many of these "millions" of people that they say have signed up have had the same thing happen to them? How many others are going to be in for a shock if they ever want to better themselves and go for a better paying job, just to get hit with this same problem? I also heard that if you don't report it during the year (a raise in wages) then when tax time comes and the IRS figures it out, people will owe all or some of their subsidy back to the government. This could get pretty messy......
