Question for mods re: ad hominem posts

Jen

Senator
I posted the following post on Charcat's top post in this forum, and I never received an answer from the moderators.
There was a long discussion on that thread and some of it was regarding ad hominem posts ..... posts that came across as attacks on groups of people. Whether or not the post was an "attack" is, of course, in the eye of the beholder.

It seems that some posters want the mods to go after the ad hominem post/ attack as per BobbyT's post here:
Or Dawg is saying all liberals should be killed. Or Jen saying all liberals are liars and are destroying the country. Or Drum saying all liberals are racist. You see, we can all play that game. There are posters who use generalization and generalized slurs as a posting style and posters who do not. We all know who they are on both sides.

I want to note that I, Jen, do say that "liberals are liars" or "some liberals are liars" but I don't say "ALL liberals are liars" so this post itself is a lie...........but I digress.

If we can't use the ad hominem negative post, then there's no point in posting at all. Almost all of our posts are that sort of "attack" and almost every post could be turned in if it were a rule that we can't do that.

So, the question:
When Bobby (or anyone) turns me in for saying "liberals are stupid"...............will my post be deleted?

I just want to know ahead of time.
This will be a deal-breaker for the board since any post is at risk and I don't want to waste my time writing a post if it's going to be deleted or moved.
Thanks.

It's a matter of context imo. I review a thread when resolving a report. If it appears that such "ad hominem negative post" is being used to derail a thread or bait another poster(s),it might be edited or deleted. You should PM SW48 if you think hard and fast rules should be laid down to mods on that.

I'll say this. It's a deal-breaker for me when a poster uses such phrases ad nauseum. Those of us here know who those posters are and why they do it. I personally don't open their top-posts or read their replies to my or others' posts unless I'm resolving a report.

No need for further PM. Your answer here is perfect. Thanks.

That's just me too. Phil and connie might have a different take. If they reply in this thread I'll certainly consider their take. They've been doing this longer than I have.

That sounds like the way I would expect them to do it, bd.
I just wanted to be sure that hadn't changed........ what you stated is what it should be.
Thanks again.
