Is disease a business?

I'm not talking about curing disease as a business, but making sure that disease continues as a profit factor.

How many actual cures does big Pharma produce? Or, does it just, mainly produce drugs that mask the symptoms of disease/illness? How about the side effects of patented drugs? One of the drugs, that my GP tried to prescribe for me had "toxic shock and death" listed as a potential side effect - needless to say, I gave that one a body swerve.

Over 100k Americans die each year from the side effects of prescribed patented drugs - and, I'm not talking about people who overdose on pain killers. Imagine if a terrorist organisation was killing over 100k Americans every year - there would be a popular outcry to nuke them - but, big Pharma; it's profit, it's the American way.

Just came across this thread Wulk, and it's a really good one. If I was inclined I could write reams refuting most of what was contained in the responses to it. I simply do not feel like running around and finding all the links that would be required. Suffice it say that I too have been curious as to why people rarely question the massive numbers of deaths and maiming that occurs from so many prescription drugs out there.

Basically I think that it's because people have been programmed from early in life that the doctor will make it all better. If they were to question that too much they would be left on their own when they get sick. That's too scary for most. They've been taught to be afraid of alternatives so it would leave them hanging.

Personally I rarely go to a doctor and feel like I'm much better off for it.
The doctors that I have the most faith in are holistic.

crowfoot, in this age of so many things being computerized, people keep falling into the trap of seeing everything as black or white. The reality is that very few things are all one way or the other. That's particularly true when it comes to our bodies.

Some 'modern medicine' is really very good and does some wonderful things for some people. That's just as there are some really good doctors out there who do too. Unfortunately, in many ways it's almost like buying a lottery ticket. Whoever wins, wins big, but there are all those who don't. Within that, there are secondary winners and perhaps third, who do alright but then there are all those others.

I think we should always prefer natural things for the treatment, because drugs and medicine have also many side effect . There are many natural ways which we can use for every kind of disease and issue.

So many pharmaceuticals came from natural remedies, and they decided to concoct them in a lab. This is where the danger comes from. I much prefer natural remedies.

Same here, Wahbooz.
Thanks to the internet, I've been doing some reading and using of natural remedies.
Do you know that a couple of handfuls of cashews act calm you like some of the contrived anti-anxiety drugs? Not that cashews are cheap if one has an ongoing anxiety issue, but it's nice to know.

There is no addiction problem to cashews, except a taste thing. And they don't interfere with cognitive function like anti-anxiety meds do. Have you seen that commercial on tv, the woman taking some med, and her eyes look like dinner plates. No thank you, I don't need to get high to solve an issue.

I prefer cashews to dinner plate eyes too.

Of course, much of it was slated to be shipped to Hussein, but he was hung before it could be shipped. And much of it didn't make it to the bottom of the ocean either.

This is nothing new, and nowhere near as bad as VX.
No it isn't new, it is a reminder.

Sure drugs have side effects, but beneficial ones? The side effects are killing people, over 100,000 Americans every year - how many worldwide?

As for continuing the spread of disease/illness - what profit is there in a cure? And, this is a profit driven industry.

I don't think that there is anything that can completely eliminate disease. However, there are preventive measures that just about anyone can take to minimise their chances of illness/disease.
I remember when I moved to Chicago 17 years ago; we had sales positions galore. Then they all vanished, except for pharmaceuticals, which payed five times as much as the rest of the field. But you need the Bachelors to get those. My stepson has the degree and has been in the field, he has entertained as much as 50 doctors for dinner; and we aren't talking Burger King. He makes 6 figures, pushing drugs. He's in a management position grooming the sales force ... big pharma has chemists creating the drugs, then there is a sales force to market those drugs, the doctors learn about the drugs from the sales team. So there is all kinds of drugs being pushed for every imaginable reason.
No doctor is going to tell you to get plenty of sleep and make chicken broth; there is likely 100 pharmaceutical options to go to instead.
