Michael Savage's Disgusting Rant: PTSD And Depression Sufferers Are "Weak," "Narcissistic," "Losers"

Terrible remarks shown here made by Savage, such hate pours from him. It must be awful being him.
----------
Savage Attacks Military Veterans Suffering From PTSD: "No Wonder ISIS Can Defeat Our Military"

SAVAGE: I am so sick and tired of everyone with their complaints about PTSD, depression. Everyone wants their hand held, and a check -- a government check. What are you, the only generation that had PTSD? The only generation that's depressed? I'm sick of it. I can't take the celebration of weakness and depression.
See, I was raised a little differently. I was raised to fight weakness. I was raised to fight pain. I was raised to fight depression. Not to give into it. Not to cave into it and cry like a little baby in bed. "Boo-hoo-hoo. Boo-hoo-hoo." Everyone has depression in their life. Everyone has sickness and sadness and disease. And loss of relatives. And loss of career. Everyone has depression in their life. But if the whole nation is told, "boo-hoo-hoo, come and get a medication, come and get treatment, talk about mental illness." You know what you wind up with? You wind up with Obama in the White House and liars in every phase of the government. That's what you wind up with. It's a weak, sick, nation. A weak, sick, broken nation. And you need men like me to save the country. You need men to stand up and say stop crying like a baby over everything. Stand up already. Stop telling me how sick you are and sad you are. Talk about the good things in your life.
When have you last heard that? Oh, everyone's holding their hand. "Oh, welcome to Good Morning America, sir. You almost committed suicide, how interesting. Please tell us your story." Maybe a young child who's on the edge can commit suicide. What a country. No wonder we're being laughed at around the world. No wonder ISIS can defeat our military. Take a look at that. Take a look at that, why people aren't even getting married anymore to have children. They don't even have the guts to raise a child. The men are so weak, and so narcissistic, all they want to do is have fun. Bunch of losers. Just go have a brewski and look at the 49ers, you idiot, you. They won't even get married, won't have a child, it takes too much of a man to do that. What a country. You're not a man, you're a dog. A dog raises babies better than most American men do.

In a more normal time, a chickenhawk like Savage couldn't get away with this.

There has to be something wrong with the guy, how insensitive can one be to make remarks like his when so many troops/vets suffer with those illnesses.

Very insensitive words to people we hold dear for all they have given.

There is a thread of truth in his words. Look to WWII, a very intense battle condition, but you didn't see that many PTSD problems. We are a soft society and these type of problems are symptomatic of raising our kids to not compete, everyone gets a meddle. This whole way of raising kids in a coddled manner results in people not being able to handle the stresses of life. I understand it, don't like it, but it is the way we function as a country.

I've heard a couple of rational explanations for the difference between the typical WWII soldier and the soldier of today. First off - and this may come as a surprise to many - the average WWII soldier spent a much smaller percentage of his time in actual combat, than does today's soldier.

Second...the WWII soldier came home to a community of (mostly) men who'd served just like he did. So, it was much easier for him to0 commiserate. Today's soldier comes home to a community of people who don't have the slightest idea of what he went through.

Yes, these are good points. All of WWII was 4 years so the actual combat time was small. We have been in the middle East for 10 years or more and the soldiers keep having to go back, very stressful so that aspect will take a toll. I find it hard to believe that 50% of the soldiers come out with PTSD (50% from recent article, not sure of its accuracy). Something sure seems wrong.

As I've never actually served in combat, please take my rambling with a grain of salt. But...two published statistics jump out at me. One is that the average WWII soldier served but 12 days in combat, per year. The average Vietnam War soldier served 240.

The other is that post WWII, the experts in these sorts of things came to the conclusion that even in combat, only 15% of our soldiers did most all of the fighting. The other 85% spent most of their time and attention on simply staying alive. Based on that research, our American military set about instilling more of a "killer instinct" in its trainees.

WWII drew from an almost completely random cross-section of America. Our modern American military selects for a very specific type of individual. Therefore, we shouldn't surprised at some of these apparently unanticipated consequences.

Agree on the lack of sensitivity shown by Savage, even more so, when I can't find any record of him having ever served in the military.

But I did discover he also takes aim at children with asthma and autism as well. He seems to think some of it is a fraud/re their diagnosis and is a money making scam.

Savage is a hack, but is interesting to listen two in short bursts, for the slant on life he presents. Don't agree with much of it, but food for thought.
To me its very hard to believe his son is Anthony Weiner of NY fame. They seem like polar opposites.

Once again you are dead wrong, go check your facts again. I remember him talking about it on his show.
Quite simply, you're incorrect.

Anthony Weiner...

Weiner was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 4, 1964, the middle son of Mort Weiner, a lawyer, and his wife Frances (née Finkelstein), a public high school math teacher.[1][2][3] The family lived for a time in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn. His older brother, Seth, was killed at age 39 by a hit-and-run driver in May 2000.[4][5] His younger brother, Jason, is a chef and co-owner of several New York restaurants.[6]

Well I looked it up and you are right! I very clearly rememering him talk about his son Anthony and they even had the two on his show together when he first ran for the senate. I know I'm not dreaming as my wife just said the same thing. Regardless of what we herd on the radio it is wrong and I stand corrected.

Those are considerations.

Another is that PTSD wasn't a diagnosis until 1980, so that's a problem:

A brief history of the PTSD diagnosis

The risk of exposure to trauma has been a part of the human condition since we evolved as a species. Attacks by saber tooth tigers or twenty-first century terrorists have probably produced similar psychological sequelae in the survivors of such violence. Shakespeare's Henry IV appears to meet many, if not all, of the diagnostic criteria for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), as have other heroes and heroines throughout the world's literature. The history of the development of the PTSD concept is described by Trimble (1).

In 1980, the American Psychiatric Association (APA) added PTSD to the third edition of its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-III) nosologic classification scheme (2). Although controversial when first introduced, the PTSD diagnosis has filled an important gap in psychiatric theory and practice. From an historical perspective, the significant change ushered in by the PTSD concept was the stipulation that the etiological agent was outside the individual (i.e., a traumatic event) rather than an inherent individual weakness (i.e., a traumatic neurosis). The key to understanding the scientific basis and clinical expression of PTSD is the concept of "trauma."

Also, soldiers in combat units during WW2 were not rotated out of combat as, for example, many pilots were. Many pilots rotated back to the States or duties other than combat after a set number of missions, but that did not happen to soldiers in ground combat units. They were in it for the long haul, so those who suffered from combat fatigue were largely drummed out of their units, and the stronger soldiers remained. Combat rotation may explain why it seems soldiers are softer today, so Fast Eddy's observation that soldiers seem soft today may be valid.

When it comes to the question of whether Americans are softer today than before, I'm not so sure. That MMA shit is wicked, and it's new. Americans are certainly among the toughest there, and I don't know of any other people brazen enough to ride bulls though Portuguese bullfighting comes pretty damn close. You should check-out how they fight bulls:

Savage's son is not Anthony Weiner, his son is Russel Weiner, the founder and CEO of Rockstar energy drinks. He's now a billionaire...

Yes, he does take aim at children with disabilities. He caught hell for his stupid remarks about autism, and apologized. I suspect he'll apologize for this rant, too, when it catches up with him.

He's just a horrible little man with a horrible big mouth.
