Has anybody ever wondered

what kind of world we are building. Many are proud of the 'technological advances' of this culture, others for 'conquering' this hemisphere, but what has that brought upon the world?

“We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty, and to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, 'Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another.”

Just because it's done, doesn't make it right. Think about what the next generation will be inheriting.

We aren't building it.............we are destroying it.

Decay and rebirth. Life and death. Destruction and renewal.

It's just the cycle of life. Any student of history can see the cycle in the geo-political maps in the past. Societies and cultures have grown, expanded, dominated and died. Remnants remain and aspects of culture remain, but destruction was one of the important changes in the world.

We don't have Pharoahs anymore, nor Greek Gods...The Ottoman Empire is a memory, as is the Mongol empire. Swept up, swept aside, swallowed by others.

Every generation decries the terrible future, but we keep plugging away and the future keeps coming and the generations survive.

Technology has made the world "smaller". More intimate in some ways, while also making us more distant in other relationships. It is the "smaller" part that truly fascinates me as the entire world is a keyboard click away. I play golf with international foursomes, but don't leave my house. The tiny planet seems quite real when a foursome consists of someone in Singapore, Latvia, New Zealand and The US...That makes us closer to the rest of the world and makes it easier to understand that we all seek the same basic things.

My History teacher used to tell the class, history repeats itself every hundred years. I have thought about that comment many times since..

If history repeats itself, and the unexpected always happens, how incapable must Man be of learning from experience. -George Bernard Shaw

No Craig, Oppenheimer was referring to our ability to destroy the world, not simply change it.

Any fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius-and a lot of courage-to move in the opposite direction. Albert Einstein.

Globalisation has made us more vulnerable. It creates a world without borders, and makes us painfully aware of the limitations of our present instruments, and of politics, to meet its challenges - Anna Lindh
This is what destroy the world. It destroy Europe now but I will not read about it in my history book and my teacher will not tell me about this in class

I still see it as the march of "progress", which is not always a positive. Shiva is the Hindu God of Destruction...or transformation. The idea of ruination is an old one. Oppenheimer and the group merely found a more...let's say effective...means of supplying the destruction. Did the Chinese make similar statements after learning the power of gunpowder? They could now easily destroy that which they could not previously.

I had a moment of epiphany about 25 years ago while visiting the Art Institute of Chicago. They have a massive Armor and Weaponry collection. I knew about these items, through study of history and through role playing games. Currently most of it is in storage, which is a shame. The energy spent, the design, the creativity, and the specter of death are all ridiculously present in 12 foot long pikes...and hidden firearms, disguised as everyday items...belt buckles, for example.

Humans have worked to bring death to others ever since humans could do so.

Guess I see it as a sad piece of progress, Craig.
