A 1.8 million-year-old skull found in Georgia could turn current understanding of evolution on its head. A new study claims that early man did not come from Africa as seven species, but was actually a single ‘Cuomo erectus’ with variations in looks.
The case revolves around an early human skull found in a stunningly well-preserved state at an archaeological dig at the site of the medieval hill city of Dmanisi in Georgia, a study in the journal Science revealed on Thursday.
Stone tools were found next to the remains, indicating that the species hunted large carnivorous prey, including probably saber-toothed tigers.

I once thought this a dead subject, but a lot of the new data coming in sure seems to be changing what we have thought for a long time. The small species found in Asia was identified as a separate species. The giants being found bring more confusion.
Your article was interesting, but I don't think we have the answer yet, but it is getting interesting.

Unfortunately - for at least the past several hundred years, there's been considerable motivation for people to mislead as to archeological finds. Therefore - at least at the outset, we need to take all of these wonderous "finds" with a grain of salt.

I believe the Human race is older than most of us can conceive or understand...

The mystery of this world and universe is amazing, and the theories from being created by a God like being to being only from something that once floated in the ocean is wide and open for discovering the truth...

I really do not believe in the mythical stories of the Bible, and believe humanity is not even from this planet... ( I know insane crap from the man of insanity... )

One day humanity will discover the truth but many will refuse to accept it...

The archeological find is real. it is only the conjecture that this dig "could turn current understanding of evolution on its head" that is unfounded nonsense. They are merely early Cuomo erectus fossils. Nothing particularly "special" about them.

Why in the world would they hunt carnivorous prey? They make Neanderthals look like bloody geniuses.

Anyway, the find was made in 2001 or so.

You have to take some things with a grain of salt. People like Philip Tobias have put forth evidence that even Cuomo Habilis had a defined Broca like region of the brain, suggesting they had the intelligence to make tools, and could even have had a language of sorts. Something scientists were not willing to accept. I question the authors assertion of 'hunting carnivorous prey'. Perhaps it is more correct to say they had the wisdom not to be a prey for a carnivore.

Good stuff.

I seem to remember, however, that Cuomo Habilis remains have been found with stone tools present.

Yes, Richard Leakey claimed Habilis was a tool maker, which explained the presence of stone tools at the Olduvai Gorge site. Some claim the tools belonged to another species, but I am willing to accept they were Habilis' tools. To me there is no reason not to.

No answer about the hunting of carnivorous prey, but the intelligence issue is another matter.

"The name for humanity’s closest extinct ancestor shouldn’t be an insult to modern man, according to recent archaeological evidence. A new review published in Plos One claims that Neanderthals were just as advanced in brainpower, technology, and culture as their early human contemporaries.

According to the study’s lead author, Paola Villa of the University of Colorado Museum in Boulder, previous stereotypes of Neanderthals as primitive and brutish arose from inaccurate comparisons made between the ancient hominids and human groups from later time periods. When Villa and his colleague, Wil Roebroeks of Leiden University in the Netherlands, examined records of Neanderthal and human sites from the same point in time, they found that the two species left equally impressive evidence for a range of intelligent behaviors."

The idea that 'modern humans' are far advanced to other species is rather ridiculous to me, because they ate fish. There were Neanderthals who ate fish, such as salmon, and other sea creatures at least 40,000 years ago contrary to common belief. And 'modern humans' did not 'displace' Neanderthals, they interbred.

I suspect this has come about due to the Max Planck Institute discovering Neanderthal DNA in most Europeans. Reality changes perception, especially when people realize who their relatives are.

Modern humans have a much larger brain capacity than earlier species, so it can be assumed modern humans are far advanced by comparison, and we are.

That depends on what you define 'advanced' to mean. Do we have more storage capacity? Sure we do. But does that make a computer more advanced, compared to one with twice the hdd capacity? Not necessarily. I'd say the real test will come if we actually do find ourselves in an actual ice age. I suspect there will be one hell of a die off of 'modern human' if that does actually take place. Most people living today are not capable of surviving that.

I don't think an ice world would be able to support billions of people, so some would die off, and I don't think I understand your computer analogy. Are you saying more computer storage capacity isn't a computer advance?

I suspect quite a bit more than some will die off.

No I meant twice the storage does not make a computer more advanced than another. It's just more storage. 1, 2, or 4, TB hdd's do not make a computer more advanced, they just give you more 'attic space'. Doesn't mean the computer is stronger or wiser and more capable of surviving.

I should have mentioned, get rid of the HDD and replace it with a SSD of much smaller size, and you have a computer that will function more efficiently with less storage capacity. So all I'm saying is, brain size does not denote superiority.

Fair enough.
