Seventy years ago today, at 0530 European time, 1600 artillery pieces of the German 6th Panzer, 2nd Panzer and 7th Armees commenced fire on the US 99th, 106th a...nd 28th Divisions in the Ardennes. The 106th had been in Europe 10 days, and had no combat experience. The Battle of the Bulge had begun. Of the nearly 12,000 soldiers in the 106th, only about 750 were not killed, wounded, or captured (6000 to 9000 were POWs). Remember these brave veterans!
