Need help finding a thread

Awhile back (maybe 2 months) I started a post where we listed all of the important topics in the world.

Now I can't find that post.

What I want to do is list them out alphabetically and have each of us answer them on our profile so that fellow posters don't lump us in with others on subjects we don't agree with. This would allow anyone to go in and see our position on a given subject.

Do you really think it would make any difference? Disagree with even a minor point of view, and you're like the guy in prison.

"Suck one and you're branded for life."

Sorta defeats the point of dialogue, no? If everyone has set, immutable POVs on "all the important topics in the world" then where's the value in debate? We could just have everyone post their POV on every topic and then shut down the board because we'd be done.

Actually gives a defense against naive posters. Like when some is responding to me and they say "all you righty Faux/GOP etc etc" I can point them to my profile page where it shows what I believe.

The biggest problem on PJ is when posters lump other posters into one of two large groups...

Speaking of naive ....

The biggest problem in PJ is the lump of posters who don't actually care what anyone's position is on anything. These posters like the third-grade-level tit for tat and are not here for actual discussion and debate.

In addition, few positions are so concrete as to be distilled into a sentence or two. A lot of positions are circumstance dependent. For example, I am pro choice. I agree with using the definition of viability as the cut-off point. But in the case of the life of the mother, I wouldn't be against a post-viability abortion if that's what the woman wanted. I can envision others coming up with other conditions for which I would alter my position in that one circumstance. But if my position were codified in my profile, then people would just point to that position and declare the conversation over because "hey, you already made your position clear, no going back now"; there would be no room left for nuance.

You could continually update your responses on each subject and go into as much detail as you want

Interesting idea.
I like it.
I can see that some here don't want to be pinned down on what they believe.
Not surprising.

The problem is you have too many people here who label posters because they do not 100% follow what they say, as if what they say goes. Nor do many of them support their accusations or claims with evidence. Perhaps many here are actually politicians.

That would only work with some posters here, Jen. Just like SW said, too often lumping into two groups is what takes place.

I suppose ...... but instead of someone having put in his profile the chapter and verse on everything he believes, for every circumstance that could be imagined, with every nuance imaginable, couldn't he just respond to a post to explain it instead? I could write a book about every single opinion I have on every subject imaginable, accounting for all exceptions and circumstance-specific differences, but who would buy it? (No one!!). If there is someone who has a black and white opinion on any subject there is, that is not someone I would be interested in posting with - if no one can learn or change or expand their opinion, then what's the point of a forum like this? Everyone would already be locked down.
