There was no time or chance for them to call for help (as most libs would probably say she should have done)...they both would have been dead if her husband didn't have that gun.

It sounds like typical politician over reaction to a problem. sorta funny.
Actually there is a problem with machetes, swords, knives and gangs which they don't always keep to themselves ---- many of our gangs are run by African 'boy soldiers'.

But yup the Police do over react on orders from on high --- My daughter has a tiny garden in London it doesn't warrant buying a whole set of garden tools, and where would she keep them? She was going to sow grass seed on the patch of earth so I said I'd bring my garden up fork next time I visited her to dig it over ''No! Don't do that, they'll do you for carrying an offensive weapon'' --- bollocks, I was going to take it anyway but she borrowed one closer to home. Crazy ---- a nail file in a hand bag will be counted as an offensive weapon if they feel so inclined though some girls have used it to gouge bits out of people in fights so it does, or should, depend on the circumstance.

Here in America, people are considerably more likely to carry/brandish guns - legally and illegally - than they've been throughout most of our history. Advocates for gun rights tend to view this as a good thing. Maybe so?...maybe not..but it does come at a cost....

In a place where only criminals carry guns (or knives), it's easier to identify those criminals before they do us harm. The way things stand now, we need to wait for them to do harm before we respond.

Now, since 9/11 ( never during the IRA days) we see Police with big automatic things occasionally in Train Stations or such like but before that I was never ever aware of any gun in any public place here ---- never even thought about it.

Even in Europe where the Police do carry guns they don't feel as threatening as they do in the US --- you do have an especial problem, my dear ;)

Well yeah.... if they aren't doing any harm, then what is there to respond to?

It's just an example of people who think being scared is the same as being harmed. IOW, idiots.

Our Gun Laws were tightened after Dunblane ---- but Dunblane is an even more sinister event than simply what it was --- and the files on it are closed 'forever'. Now there are files which are closed for 30 years some even 100 years but 'forever' is almost if not completely unheard of. The connections, which the families have found, are of men ( or rather one man) in very high places, of pheodophia and of deals being done through Masons against the wishes of the local Police.

Yes ---- Fear of fear and all that.

I don't like living in societies where arms are carried but that is how my society has evolved --- Yours is another question and not mine to even think about answering ;)

Doesn't make sense.
Does she carry her gun on her body everywhere even if she's at home?
To fight against burglars it's better to have a strong fit body too, why nobody talks about it? :) I bet this woman has a dexterity of an elephant, so I doubt that pistol is all she needs to "be prepared".
