Turkey’s Shift on the Syrian War

Why did Turks change their opinion on ISIS? They were supplying them with weapons before and now they declared war to them. The most strange thing is that they don't support the idea of Kurdistan and there are many oppressed Kurds craving for independence in South-Eastern part of Turkey. Yet they declare truce with them. How long is it going to last? I doubt that it's for long.

"Why did Turks change their opinion on ISIS?"

Are you serious with that question?

Here's a thought....maybe the Obama administration knows what they're doing???

Ya think?

Turkey just broke its truce with the Kurds. It attacked them at the same time it attacked ISIS. My take: Turkey sees the opportunity to grab control of parts of Syria, with support from the U.S. and (probably) Israel, and with the local on-the-ground opposition fractured and fighting each other. The likely result: greater regional instability, a resurgence of ISIS as Turkey eliminates much of their competition (and, probably, resumes its de facto pro-ISIS stance as soon as the U.S. and Iran become distracted by other issues), and brutal treatment of Kurds and (most likely) Arabs in areas under Turkish control.

In other words, Obama wants Turkey to expand into Syria and perhaps Iraq, and for Kurdish nationalism to once again take a serious hit?

This is, and will be for decades, an ugly fight, thanks to the gw bush.

What I understand is that there are Kurds that are in a border fight with Turkey and certain Kurdish sects. In the beginning, it had nothing to do with ISIL.

But, the fact that ISIL is who they are, Turkey has no other choice but to protect they homeland and are fighting a two front war.

The ME is more dire than it was pre 2008 thanks to bush.

Really, it's all fallout from George H.W. Bush's 1991 war.

I need to correct myself. I meant to say that the ME is is in a more dire consequence after 2003, not 2008.

The only fault I lay on GHW Bush is that he lied to the Kurds and set them up for gassing that happened to them by Hussien.

But, we're talking about both bush presidencies. One knew when to pull out....the other denying responsibility for not.

Fezzy Fuzzy Muzzy

The Kurds took ISIS's oil, which it had been selling to Turkey at half price. When the Iranians, looking for the bigger eventual prize, Mecca, send more troops in, they may not care so much about Kurdistan's independence as long as that hurts ISIS and Iran's mortal enemy, Turkey.

The Turks peaked on September 11, 1683, and have been screwing up ever since then, so why should we think they know what they're doing now?
