It was in 1970 that the U.S. passed the National Environmental Policy Act, created the EPA, and passed the Clean Air Act. In 1972 the U.S. passed the Clean Water Act. In 1973, the Endangered Species Act. These and similar measures by other countries may have postponed the crisis about which so many scientists warned us.

That is the dumbest statement you've ever made in your entire life. And somehow I think that in a few seconds you're about to top it.

In other words, you didn't understand it, so you called it dumb, as you do with everything you don't understand. I'll try to put it in simple terms so that you can understand.

Your implied argument was:

1) If 1 fairly obscure Harvard biologist was wrong about anything, it discredits the entire environmentalist movement.
2) George Wald said civilization would end within 15 or 30 years.
3) Civilization did not end within 15 or 30 years.
4) By 2 and 3, George Wald (an obscure Harvard biologist) was wrong about something.
5) Therefore, the entire environmentalist movement is discredited.

1 is obviously false, and if flatly confronted with it you'd deny that was the implied meaning behind your post. But I was taking my aim at 2. You see, Wald actually did not say that civilization would end within 15 or 30 years. He said that unless immediate action was taken, civilization would end within 15 or 30 years. But, of course, immediate action was taken. He still may have been wrong, of course, but the implication that he has been clearly proven wrong by history is completely misplaced.

Well, you proved me right. You said something even DUMBER.

Very funny. What part of the argument do you disagree with ... that immediate action was taken, or that the fact that immediate action was taken invalidates the intent of your top post?

Nothing you said invalidates ANYTHING. Posting a LIE is about the height of your skill.

What was a lie? Was it a lie that the National Environmental Policy Act and Clean Air Act was passed in 1970? Was it a lie that the Clean Water Act was passed in 1972? Was it a lie that the Endangered Species Act was passed in 1973?

You REALLY are stupid, aren't you?

THIS is the fcking statement I was responding to:

That is not only a lie, it is the DUMBEST, MOST IGNORANT LIE YOU'VE EVER TOLD, (up to the point where you're no doubt about to tell another one.)

THERE NEVER WAS ANY GODDAM GLOBAL WARMING.
THERE IS NO, ZERO ZIP, NADA ( a little Spanish lingo) HUMAN CAUSED CLIMATE CHANGE.

The fact that Nixon signed those useless agencies into law (useless because they have yet to clean ONE ounce of water, ONE breath of air, etc) had ZIPPO to do with global warming and climate change because

THERE IS NO [Unwelcome language removed] GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE.

Ladies and gentlemen, I LIVE close to the Florida coastline. Most of my work is RIGHT ON THE GULF OF MEXICO. If there were such a thing as global warming melting the polar caps WHICH OF COURSE THERE FCKING ISN'T, I would have noticed it over the last 15 years. The levels on BOTH sides of the state have remained the same. There is tidal erosion, which is very simple maritime science.

So far EVERYTHING CLIMATOLOGISTS HAVE PREDICTED has NOT come true. They have PROMISED that Florida would get hit by a killer hurricane EVERY SINGLE YEAR. And we haven't seen any in over TEN YEARS.

The climate is not changing. It's STILL hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Every winter in America is COLD AS HELL. (We got rich over our last batch of snowbirds. They got their asses kicked with snow.)

And weather scientists are STILL too goddam incompetent to be able to competently predict the WEATHER even three days out, much less THE CLIMATE OF THE ENTIRE FCKING PLANET FORTY YEARS FROM NOW.

1) Which climatologists said Florida would get hit by a killer hurricane every single year, and when did they say that would start to happen?
2) Are you aware that April 2016 was the hottest April on record (by far), that it came a month after the hottest March on record, which was a month after the hottest February on record, which was a month after the hottest January on record, which was a month after the hottest December on record, and that 4 of these 5 records were set the previous year? How can you say the weather has remained the same or that there is NO warming?
3) Do you understand that it's easier to forecast long-term global climate trends than volatile short-term local conditions, and that you do so yourself when you confidently assert that it is hot in the summer and cold in the winter, and make predictions about the weather several months from now in the United States?

<<<<1) Which climatologists said Florida would get hit by a killer hurricane every single year, and when did they say that would start to happen?>>>

Have you been living in a cave? They ALL have been saying it, EVERY YEAR.

And we had a record COLDEST winter of all time.

Anything without accountability is easy. I could just as easily say a comet will strike the earth in 50 years and have probably more credibility than the idiots predicting climate change.

have you noticed that cons tend to take on nics that are the opposite of who/what they are?
this UNreasonable poster claims to be reason. what a joke.

OK, name one. Should be easy.

And we had a record COLDEST winter of all time.
Yes, and that record coldest winter (for the Northern Hemisphere) was in 1935-1936. 2015-2016, on the other hand, was the hottest winter on record, globally and in the U.S. 2014-2015 was the hottest globally, and the 19th-hottest in the U.S., despite record-setting cold snaps in a few localities. These, by the way, are not at all incompatible with global temperature increase. Just look at Venus, where the average temperature is much hotter than on Earth, and because of that (and because of the strong winds storms generated by that extra energy) temperature records much lower than any set on Earth are routine.

Anything without accountability is easy. I could just as easily say a comet will strike the earth in 50 years and have probably more credibility than the idiots predicting climate change.
The accountability comes in when the predicted effects of the theory are matched against observations, for example when scientists predict a long-term rise in average temperatures, and such a rise is measured by surface thermometers, balloons, and satellites, and is found to be concentrated in just the areas the scientists said it would be, and associated with other phenomena the scientists said would be found alongside it.

Which is why you think making unsubstantiated assertions in capital letters (aka yelling) and calling people "morons" is a reasonable response to a factual argument.
First of all, I only told the truth. I had to use caps and bold because some people are too stupid to handle the truth.
Secondly, you ARE a moron.
Third, you have yet to make a factual argument.

The first post in this thread was factual. All you've done is lie and try to spin the truth.

That makes you a deliberate moron.

Promethean Salvation

Endangered species are unfit species. The most unscientific superstition is that Nature is so interconnected that an elimination of any of its parts would cause the whole to collapse. Nature has a fluid balance; what is more important to humans is that the Balance of Nature is not in man's favor anyway. If we don't dominate it, we will suffer dire consequences.
