Did y'all know that the first shots of the Civil War weren't actually fired on Fort Sumter on April 12,1861? The first shots fired were actually on Jan. 9,1861 and they were cannon shots fired by a shore artillery battery on a civilian supply ship called The Star Of The West that had been sent by the Buchanan Administration to resupply Fort Sumter. The artillery gunners were cadets from The Citadel who were sent to man the artillery battery as part of their training. The ship was forced to turn back.
