I had the privilege of visiting and walking the battlefield in January. It is very near the Cold Harbor Battlefield:

There is no driving tour of this battlefield. There is a small parking lot at the only structure on the battlefield. From there, you walk.

The pictures don't adequately show how steep the banks of Boatswain's Creek are. Confederate troops had to cross the creek and attack uphill on the opposite side. The pics are from the side of the creek where the Union lines were.2016-01-11 11.08.46.jpg

I was standing on a fallen tree across the creek when I took this picture:

Not many monuments on the National Park Service(NPS) battlefield. I was unable to find the Texas Monument. Didn't know that it was across the creek on land purchased by the Richmond Battlefields Association which is in the process of being turned over to NPS. A monument to the 11th Mississippi Infantry was placed on the NPS property since my visit there in January. Here is one that I found:

All I had with me was a cellphone camera. Found another monument in the woods but the pic isn't too good. If you can zoom on it you can read it. I've since bought a good camera and I'm getting some better pics these days.

A nice place on the battlefield. The second pic is looking straight ahead from where the first pic was taken.:

The history of the US would be very different if Stonewall Jackson hadn't been worn completely out by the time he arrived at the Seven Days. A healthy Jackson would have cut off the AOP's retreat, keeping them from reachieving the Va. shore. This would have led to a AOP surrender -- and effectively no Army between the new commander R.E. Lee and Washington.
