Oh, "Rosie', do be careful. Your true personality is showing...as well as your identity. I will not make more posts on this thread, because I don't want to ruin it for the others, but shame on you....
Is the "Mean Girls Club" going to follow me all over PJ to give me a hard time? LOL! Bring it on. This old gal is ready for ya!
P.S. Read my signature line.

Don't leave, it has turned out to be a really good thread. Everyone has some input into subjects relating to American History. I'd like to have yours too.

I am also not posting in this thread again - in the hopes that the conversation will be allowed to pick up from were it was so rudely interrupted by a hooligan.
Thank you so very much! Remember when you gave me your Facebook info, but I never contacted you? This is why I don't get personal with people on these boards. You never know when they might change up on you.
Have a nice day.:)

IMO:

History has been unkind to Gen. Robert E Lee, thanks to the South’s moronic obsession of having lost the Civil War as best exemplified by the battle of Gettysburg where Historians of the South have blatantly rewritten history giving way to an incoherent logic to any critical analysis.

Specifically & to the point:

Anyone having walked the Gettysburg’s battle fields where Picktett’s charge took place & reading how the most part of the Confederate military canon barrage was “Wasted” behind the Union lines must question how the best military mind of the Civil War would order such an inane attack without having more elaborate plans.

.

The fact is the Lee’s plan was by far better because his plan was to have the entire Confederate cavalry make an end run around the Union lines to attack the Union from the rear & as the good commander he was, he made his plans very simple by targeting a clearly visible hedge of trees at the center of the Union lines as his cavalry’s goal & the infantry would then consolidate this strategic position once having split the Union down the middle.

.

Lee’s plan started perfectly when J.E.B Stuart’s Confederate Cavalry nicknamed, “The Invincibles” arrived at their position behind the Union lines & fired a series of canon shots to notify Lee that they were starting to attack & Lee’s artillery started their cannonade to clear the way for their cavalry.

.

But then the plan unraveled in the most outright disgraceful way when one single Union Brigade defeated the entire Confederate Cavalry estimated at well over 10,000 cavalrymen (& that historians “IF” they admit that event, low, low ball at half that number). Whatever the numbers a person opts to use, the fact is that the one single Michigan Brigade led by General George Custer made the entire Confederate Army of Cavalry to retreat.

.

The results were that the Confederate infantry faced a withering Union cannonade in the open field that should have been turned on the Confederate Cavalry had their cavalry accomplished their assigned mission instead of “The Invincibles” opting to hightail it when confronted with Custer’s Wolverine Brigade.

.

As can be expected the “Brave” & dashing Gen. J.E.B Stuart would blame Gen. Robert E. Lee for the disaster at Gettysburg.

.

Did the Wolverine Brigade ever give up the field, the entire war? I don't think so. Michigan sharp shooters were feared.

Are you familiar with the author,Eric Wittenberg? He is the author of at least 5 modern books on the cavalry action at Gettysburg. He will be the November speaker at our local Civil War Round Table meeting.

Watched this video of an Eric Wittenberg presentation on John Buford at Gettysburg yesterday:

In a way Wittenberg reminds me of the guide we had the good fortune to have exclusively assigned to drive our car at Gettysburg that was a history buff addict of the battle of Gettysburg & the guy just wouldn’t stop talking giving us all sort of details including the Texan Brigade’s actions at Devil’s Den & Little Round Top.

For starters: What was this all about:
