Let's say I was lamenting the current state of romance among millennials, and I pointed out that back in our grandparents' day, they didn't text each other to flirt, they actually went out on dates and got to know each other. Would that suggest that I think SMS existed generations ago? No. It would just contrast current behaviors with behaviors at the time.
