Florence the freight train hurricane

Terrifying
Not sure if you saw this (I posted it the other day) Here is my little town after Charley (was not living here then) It came in fresh off the gulf and followed the peace river 40 miles before hitting here. Remember, this is mainly the wind damage.

This hurricane was such a close call, and Dawg should still get that 2-3 feet of rain before its over. How does your tractor run through that? He might have to wait for a couple days of sunshine to get back to the harvest.

Latest NOAA update says it is still a hurricane; barely. 80 mph sustained winds, and it has slowed to a crawl... 3 mph west-southwest direction. If this sucker turns further south in the next few hours, it could walk right back into the water. And that's how slow it is moving; casual walking speed.

this is still going to be a lot of flooding for North Carolina southern coast.
Got a friend that lives in Myrtle Beach,SC that had to evacuate. He is saying it could be 5-10 days before he and his wife can get back in.

Just a drive down the main drag, imagine a thorough exploration.

Irma did similar, last September. Can you believe we still have quite a few grand live Oaks? Imagine the trees here in 2003!
The median in Broadway Blvd. in Galveston,Texas was lined with some beautiful and some very old oak trees. In 2008, Hurricane Ike killed most of them. Every time I go down there,I think about those trees. Can't imagine how beautiful it would be now,10 years after they were killed.

How sad bd, how heart breakingly sad.

In the 'Great (unexpected) Storm' of '87 here, the town of Seven Oaks was left with just one Oak - there was massive devastation everywhere, so many places were left unrecognizable because of the loss of old trees. It is so so sad.

Now though, they are chopping down trees here as fast as they can, often illegally, to put in 'parking meters' and for one mobile phone company which is complaining about trees being in the way and for CCTV camera's to have better views - of for eg Notting Hill Carnival.

Just saw a news cast on "zombie trees" A new term for shaken tree syndrome. The roots are damaged so bad, it's doomed. The only question is, how long will it take to fall?

Salt water from the storm surge killed the oak trees in Galveston.

Wilmington got the worst of the storm surge from Florence.

Remember; Harvey dropped all its rain on flat land. The Carolinas are full of rivers. All those rivers are setting record flood stage levels... it's a different dynamic.
