I'm often referred to as "right winger" around here...

I feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe you should drive.
But I found myself oddly defending Congress' Marxist twins (Reps Omar and Ocasio Cortez) this week. Omar's comments about AIPAC were not "anti-Semitic" so much as they were accurate. I could elucidate as to why I feel this way, but fortunately Glenn Greenwald provides the logic:

I have nothing to add to Glenn's very appropriate response. And as for AOC, I agree with her whole heartedly on the stupidity behind NY taxpayers' subsidizing Jeff Bezos' expansion plans. This is the same logic used to put taxpayer subsidies into sports venues - why are we regular folks putting billions into the pockets of, well, billionaires? It is absurd!

Oh well, I'll get back to being a "right wing nut" now…that is all.

Most people on the Right are not hard core Party liners. We assess a situation and come down on the side that actually makes sense.

Lefties are hardcore party liners. If one of them steps outside the line, it will be eaten by its own. They project that those they call "Righties" are the same. We are not. We actually think things through, then decide.

When a state or city does something like what they are doing with Amazon, it not only sees the immediate growth of the company and the jobs that ensue, which is also good for the tax base, but it also promotes the growth of satellite companies which supply goods and services to the workers in that company. The entire area benefits, not just Amazon.

This has been the discussion that has been going on over Foxconn in Wisconsin. If it were just benefiting Foxconn, then an argument could be made that it's just corporate welfare. However, estimates are, between restaurants, hotels, transport companies, etc, The Foxconn site may very well become a whole new town with it's own infrastructure. The 13k initial jobs may become far higher. This is an investment in the state and its people, not just a tax give away.

And will someone please explain to AOC that a tax break does not mean you already have it in the state coffers? She is such a moron.

Look, it's really pretty simple.

A) If New York was economically competitive, they wouldn't have to bribe companies to locate there.

B) Amazon would create these jobs somewhere that IS economically competitive, if there were no progressive socialist welfare states willing and able to bribe them by giving them a better tax deal than their competitors already located there.

So what you are in effect arguing here is that free markets and competition don't matter, and states/cities that maintain low tax rates as a policy shouldn't expect it to help them win these competitions for new business opportunities. That's certainly your prerogative to hold that view, but you should understand that it absolutely isn't a "conservative" or "free market" one.

That's not what I am arguing at all. If it was okay for Amazon to just go anywhere, then states wouldn't need to give these incentives to these companies. What they are doing is just like a sports team during the draft. They don't just want a company going anywhere, they want the company going there. They want it for a lot of reasons. A company like Amazon, or Foxconn spurs growth in other sectors as well. It also gets a lot of people in the area working, improves the economic base, and increases the taxes receipts. In other words, it's a huge net win for the area. In order to get them to come there, the state sweetens the pot so that all of this development doesn't go to Illinois or West Virginia. Wisconsin, when negotiating with Foxconn, had to outbid 5 other states for the company to come there. It will be a huge net win for Wisconsin, and definitely worth the investment.

I agree on both counts. I'd like to go further and defend the two Democrats in Virginia. Blackface 50 years ago? Oh please. And the rape allegations? I expect the same standard of evidence for the DemocRAT as I did Kavanaugh. So far I've seen none.

People everywhere should reject corporate welfare.

Yeah, you will. I don't buy your bs. And anyone with any common sense wouldn't either.

You ARE a right winger, no matter how you try and hide it.

Explain why you support 'capitalism' that does this while arguing with me about socialism for the rich?

Amazon Will Pay a Whopping $0 in Federal Taxes on $11.2 Billion Profits

"Those wondering how many zeros Amazon, which is valued at nearly $800 billion, has to pay in federal taxes might be surprised to learn that its check to the IRS will read exactly $0.00."

Billionaires compared with the rest of us, by the numbers

"The three richest billionaires in the U.S., as measured by the annual Forbes 400 ranking, now own more wealth than the bottom half of the nation's population combined, according to the report by the Institute for Policy Studies, a research organization focused on inequality issues."

So what you are saying is, you are jealous of anyone that has more than you, and you are too lazy to earn your own wealth. Got it

Why would he or I be jealous of anyone when we have all we want or can use. We, him and I have made our wealth unlike you who lives in mommies basement.
