Well, you know, like socks are necessary.
Because like ya know, socks like keep your feet like warm, you know ?
And you know there are people with like 40 paid of socks ! When some other people only like have 20 ! That's Unfair !
I was organizing my sock drawer recently and it struck me just what a significant role socks play in our lives. I keep my dress socks, which I rarely wear because I rarely wear dress shoes (not sure if I still have any dress shoes) tucked in the back of the drawer, out of sight and out of mind…left to themselves. They looked very lonely, I noted, not having been used for quite some time. I considered throwing them away but decided against it, we still have a relationship of sorts, albeit not as close as it once was.
I like the pretty, colored, socks….I am conservative so my dress socks are mainly browns and blues. One beige pair was originally purchased to go with a particular pair of pants and shoes but hardly ever saw any front line duty. I suppose they remain in the drawer primarily as a warning to the others that they could be replaced if the desire ever arose.
I have some gray crew socks which I wear with my tennis shoes when I wear shorts. I do have enough sense not to wear “high white” socks with shorts and, if I did not have enough sense to refrain from that act, there are enough women in the family to ensure that I do not leave the house looking like an old man with cold feet.
All this brings me to the staple of my sock world, the blue chip leader of the drawer, those wonderful cotton creations worn between my boots and my legs. It is important to me that the top of my boot does not rub against my leg. This is an irritation with which I cannot live. It drives me nuts and I have spent years ensuring that I do not have to live with it.
Many brands of cotton socks claim to be “over-the-calf” tube socks, when in fact they are simply pretenders, sock wannabes that are woefully inadequate for the job. I have, over the years, been flim-flammed and seduced into trying various brands of “over-the calf- tube socks, only to quickly find that they ended up around my toes deep inside my boots. It is a frustrating experience indeed and one that any boot wearer should never be forced to endure.
The “Haynes” over-the-calf tube sock is the only sock that does the job. It is all I buy and all I will wear with boots. Mine have the Haynes name written in red on the toe of every sock. These socks are the essence of sock happiness and satisfaction. They do not creep, fall, slide, or bunch up inside the boot. They stay up all day long and never require pulling up or adjusting.
I love my socks. My socks and I are “one” with each other and when I am wearing my Haynes over-the-calf tube socks, I have one less thing to worry about.
