No, those places were mostly very small missions and catered to a small population of the indigenous who probably had other names for the places before Spaniards and their descendants stole their "highly developed" dessert lands from them.I was more talking about Spanish Mexico. There’s a reason most of the cities in California have Spanish names, and it’s because those cities were created by the Spanish/Mexicans.
Americans (aka white Christian people ) kept the names because they are good and decent people who liked the novel sounding names and in a kind of way paid homage to those who preceded them.
