Trump’s AG, William Barr, may be in a VERY difficult spot today

His job in reporting on Mueller’s findings will be very easy if the Mueller report contains nothing damning about Trump and his toadies. But that’s wildly improbable.

So assume, hypothetically, that there are damning findings in the report. Trump expects Barr to run interference for him. He does not want damning information released to the public. But even if Barr was tempted to lie for Trump, he really can’t do it and get away with it. Rosenstein and Mueller would not let him get away with it.

Yup, Barr just may be sweating bullets today.

Simple question - if there are "damning findings" in the report, where are the indictments they would surely engender?

The DOJ has a “rule” providing that sitting presidents cannot be indicted. Trump not being indicted tells us nothing about what the report says about Trump’s conduct.

Well, Trump found himself an AG who auditioned for the job by sending Trump a 19 page memo making the ludicrous argument that Trump did not obstruct justice. What’s more, he even concluded that Trump is above the law in this regard. A Nixonian “It’s not a crime if the president does it” fiction. So forget about Trump facing criminal charges for that, at least while Barr is AG.

But the House may well impeach Trump for his obstruction of justice crime wave. They would obviously be boosted in that regard if they had the product of Mueller’s investigation, but Trump and Barr will no doubt do all they can to conceal that. So, it’s just hard to say at this point.
