People who attempt to seek asylum at ports of entry are driven away with bullets and tear gas. The intent is to cause outcomes like this.

In other words, Europeans did not have arbitrary, unjust, and racist restrictions that added unnecessary dangers to the peril they already risked.

About 250 people per day apply for asylum. Since there is no longer any way to apply for asylum without “sneaking across the border,” it seems people do just that all the time.
