A disgusting example of class warfare.

The nation is still recovering from a crushing recession that sent unemployment hovering above nine percent for two straight years. The president, mindful of soaring deficits, is pushing bold action to shore up the nation's balance sheet. Cloaking himself in the language of class warfare, he calls on a hostile Congress to end wasteful tax breaks for the rich. "We're going to close the unproductive tax loopholes that allow some of the truly wealthy to avoid paying their fair share," he thunders to a crowd in Georgia. Such tax loopholes, he adds, "sometimes made it possible for millionaires to pay nothing, while a bus driver was paying 10 percent of his salary – and that's crazy."

Preacherlike, the president draws the crowd into a call-and-response. "Do you think the millionaire ought to pay more in taxes than the bus driver," he demands, "or less?"

The crowd, sounding every bit like the protesters from Occupy Wall Street, roars back: "MORE!"

The year was 1985. The president was Ronald Wilson Reagan

And yet their sheeple believe "things will get better" for them under the GOTP, totally disregarding what 2001-2009 cost the country...

"The Republican Party has totally abdicated its job in our democracy, which is to act as the guardian of fiscal discipline and responsibility," says David Stockman, who served as budget director under Reagan. "They're on an anti-tax jihad – one that benefits the prosperous classes."

Why do you people absolutely REFUSE to believe that it doesn't make any difference who is in the White House? Presidents are bought and paid for by Big Money (think Goldman Sachs, for example), and are nothing but puppets on a string.

Maybe it's human nature to WANT to believe there's SOMEONE out there who has YOUR best interests at heart....unfortunately, there isn't.

very simple, the economy was tanking and he gave in to those on the right who said it was crazy to stop them now. But really it wouldn't have been because those at the top were not using their ill gotten gain as it was perched to be. They stuck it right where the sun don't shine and said F-off you whiny little bastards, this is our money to do as we want.

the truth was he didn't have the votes to stop it, so in order to get the tax cuts for the people who spend their money he had to give in. Don't look for that to happen again big boy.

But back to Regan, the HERO of the right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we should raise the taxes on the top 10% to 40% till we get every cent back that we gave them with the notion they would spend it to hire people and start companies, when all they did was ship jobs out of the country and kept the money.

that's a cop out, it's time we look at what is and has happened to the middle class while the top 10% got all the gifts of productivity gains, wage cuts, benefit loses, and loss jobs along with a massive tax cut. While average people lost their jobs, benefits, homes, savings, and got a pittally little tax cut that didn't cover the cost of increased gas prices.

No it's time for the wealthy to ante up. and anyone sitting here typing on this board is really stupid if he is one of those in the top 10%.

They still ignore the fact that after RayGun's ONE tax cut, he raised taxes ELEVEN times. Since the rate in question is "top marginal income", I say take it back to 60% or even 70%.

Why do you refuse to use threaded view so people know who you're responding to without guessing?

We can never deny the fact that we are in the midst of the so-called financial crisis. But I guess there is a debt contagion that is widely spreading for we are not the only nation that face this kind of problem. Lots of people really become unemployed for some companies done a massive lay-offs when our economy became unstable.

There is a saying that education is the great key to success. However, there are some college courses that still make their graduates remain unemployed despite earning a certain degree in college. Education is a costly undertaking. When the economy is down, however, deciding if that cost is worth it can be difficult. You can read this article: Doing the math of graduate school costs.

I guess, we should be wise on how we are going to live in times of economic crisis. And for those aiming to earn a degree for college, be sure that it can help you on your journey onwards success.

I want to know how many of the candidates for President on the republican side have signed Grover Norquist pledge to not raise taxes of any kind?
