She has made vague statements, but doesn't show her work. She also doesn't explain how this will impact the current health insurance system. You cannot expect to confiscate the business assets of all the insurance companies in the US and not have an impact...legally and economically.
As bad as she is at details, she certainly is not talking about printing money for a single payer system. Why engage in such goofy rhetoric? She is talking about folding current premiums into a new system. Of course, she doesn't know how much money that might be, nor does she explain how that could seamlessly take over the current system.

I've worked on computer systems for a company that was part of a consortium that provided a path from providers to payers for submitted claims. That becomes a useless investment, depending on how single payer is implemented. Computer networks, hardware at the doctors offices and hospitals....there is a lot more to this than just saying..."Hey everybody, just send your bill and your premium to the federal gov."
Of course. There’s no inherent reason why private insurers could not be part of a universal coverage system, or their assets purchased if useful. As far as I’m concerned everything should be on the table. It’s not like we have to reinvent the wheel - Western European nations have a variety of universal coverage systems. We have a wildly costly, inefficient, uncertain system. We need a national discussion to fix it.
That really isn't the point. It is that the new congresswoman has vaguely referred to a solution that isn't anywhere near a real suggestion.
It’s my point. I disagree that AOC’s call for universal health coverage isn’t real. It’s very real, whether one agrees with it or not. But to me this all begs the larger question - should we have universal coverage, or not. If we should, should we have a Medicare-for-all type system, or something else. Making this all about AOC is a distraction as far as I’m concerned.

So even if there is $21 trillion in pentagon money somewhere...is that since 1960? Is it in a bank account somewhere? Or is it simply unaccounted for spending?
