BEAUFORT | Carteret County officials are assessing the damage caused at a fire station because of a fire.

According to Chief Alton Davis of the North River Volunteer Fire Station near Beaufort, a fire broke out in his station’s bay, where the station’s equipment is kept, at approximately 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

The blaze destroyed an engine, a brush truck and two pumper tankers. All the equipment in the vehicles, including hoses, also was destroyed...
