Good points,Connie.Christie reformed the penion system, but in that article all he did was make the workers pay more and cut pensions. He should have stopped the double dipping and now his staff is being investigated.I am sure they are "allowed" to do it. But, do they have the same opportunity... probably no way.
I see that same thing happen all the time in government contracting. We have a lot of people in my state who retire from the Fed Gov't then end up going back as a consultant or contractor.... all the time.
But, when you campaign on reform and don't reform what is probably one of the worst abuses.. doesn't look good. The problem would be would they have legally been able to reform that loophole? I wonder if they could have made a law to even limit some of this. I mean... they are double dipping but if they are now working in a position not covered by the pension system... I wonder if they can even be allowed to limit what people do after the fact. Not sure.. just tossing those thoughts out there.
It certainly seems very wrong that these people get away with this.
One question though. Why would there be an investigation if it was all legal? Just asking.I agree..legal... Though I would hope to see reforms implemented going forward..
They seem to think so in the case of the woman. I doubt they would do it without any evidence at all.does something illegal need to have occurred in order for an investigation to ensue?
pension reform and the practce of double dipping..can be a subject of investigation.. no?
I was never involved in anything higher than city government, but what I did observe was bad. Friends helping friends, never mind ethics.Well, I think that the purpose of doing the investigation is to find out if it was.
The double dipping in most cases seems legit. Sadly and irritatingly. But, I wonder about the issue of the job title for the sherriff's employee. That seems sketchy, even by NJ standards.
Barb, I prefer to be that way. Just because we have polticial differences is no reason not to like each other.I love your bi-partisanship. Seriously.
